Introduction
This user guide describes the purpose, characteristics, functioning principles, setup and configuration of RG-
1000e GATEWAY. This guide is aimed at engineers responsible for installation and maintenance of the SmartPTT
dispatch system and the MOTOTRBO equipment.
It is assumed that users responsible for setting up RG-1000e GATEWAY are familiar with the following:
· The principles of building IP networks and radio networks using the MOTOTRBO equipment produced by
Motorola, and
Attention! It is strongly recommended to read this guide before you start using RG-1000e!
1. General information
RG-1000e GATEWAY is used in SmartPTT dispatch systems to provide remote control for the MOTOTRBO
control station(s) or radios through SmartPTT Radioserver (here and after referred to as Radioserver) in the
corporate IP network or on the Internet. It must be used with MOTOTRBO Radios: EMEA region DM46**e,
DM44**e, DM46**, DM44**; APAC region XiR M8600i, XiR M8600; NA region XPR 5***e, XPR 5***; LA region
DGM 8***e, DGM 5***e, DGM 8***, DGM 5***.
RG-1000e GATEWAY provides conversion of audio signals and radio control commands into IP packets and
transmission of these packets over IP network.RG-1000e GATEWAY is an alternative to direct connection of
control stations to the Radioserver via a USB interface.
RG-1000e GATEWAY also may be used for connection of non-Mototrbo radios to SmartPTT Radioserver. Mobile
radios and\or repeaters (analog or digital) are connected to RG-1000e GATEWAY using 5 wires: PTT, CSQ, RX
Audio, TX Audio and GND. It delivers basic talk-groups voice exchange capability between SmartPTT Dispatchers
and field radios of non-Mototrbo radio networks.
RG-1000e GATEWAY is connected and interacts with the SmartPTT Radioserver that is used for controlling donor
radios connected to RG-1000e GATEWAY . For establishing an IP network connection, RG-1000e GATEWAY is
equipped with the 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX Ethernet interface with the cable type autodetection. To provide
interaction between the system components, RG-1000e GATEWAY and Radioserver are assigned static IP
addresses and TCP and UDP/RTP port numbers. They are used for sending radio control commands and audio
transmissions from the dispatch console. RG-1000e GATEWAY can be used in the following cases:
· As a remote dispatcher's workplace outstation in digital networks without repeaters (Direct Mode
communication).
· You can organize a dispatch system in the networks where direct connection of the dispatch system to the
MOTOTRBO repeaters via an IP network is unavailable.
· You do not have to instal the radioserver in close proximity to the control stations within the radio network
coverage area.
· You can avoid interference and induced noise between the control stations located close to each other.
When planning the system, it must be taken into account that the packet delivery delay in the IP network leads to
the corresponding delay in radio responses to control commands and voice calls.

The figures above show examples of building a system between radios in Conventional Mode. In these examples
RG-1000e GATEWAY manages two control radios, each of which operates on its individual frequency channel and
can be programmed to operate both in digital and analog modes. If dispatchers need to operate on more than two
frequency channels simultaneously, more RG-1000e GATEWAY with radios can be connected to the radioserver.
In digital mode, control stations support receiving subscribers data (ARS, GPS, TMS, etc.), transmitting control
commands to subscribers and voice message exchange. In analog mode, radios support only voice message
exchange with subscribers.
Control stations can be programmed to operate on multiple channels. They can switch to the required channel at
the dispatch console command.
To transmit and receive subscriber voice calls, control stations must belong to the same talkgroups as
subscribers.
Private Calls between subscribers will not be received by control stations and, consequently, will not be
transmitted to the radioserver and the dispatch console.
For more information on control stations capabilities and configuration, see "MOTOTRBO SYSTEM
PLANNER" (the “System Topologies” chapter), "SmartPTT Basic Installation&Configuration Guide" and the
"SmartPTT Radioserver Configurator" software help file.
If the connected control station does not an output CSQ/COR/TG-Detect/PL-Detect signal line, you can use RG-
1000e GATEWAY built-in RX VOX for generating the CSQ signal. For example, this option is useful for connection
of the MTM5000 family radios that are not equipped with the CSQ output signal line.
In Bridge Mode, RG-1000e GATEWAYs communicate with each other directly via IP networks, creating
transparent links for audio streams and PTT/CSQ commands. SmartPTT radioserver does not take part in this
process. The following figure shows how RG-1000e GATEWAY can be used in Bridge Mode:

WARNING! GND terminal (pin) of RG-1000e must be connected to Protective Earth bus of the site where
RG-1000e is located.
WARNING! 15.5 VDC is the maximum allowed power supply voltage for RG-1000e GATEWAY. Higher
voltage values must not be used.
You have an option to build own power cable. See Appendix IV for detailed information.
WARNING! If RG-1000e GATEWAY is used with MOTOTRBO radios, MTM5*** radios, GM\CDM radios RG-
1000e GATEWAY can be powered via the Power socket, Radio 1 interface socket, or Radio 2 interface
socket.
You should consider RG-1000e GATEWAY power supplying carefully.
The following recommendations contain useful information how connect RG-1000e GATEWAY to power sources
properly:
· If only one MOTOTRBO radio is connected to RG-1000e GATEWAY, the radio is the recommended power
source. The C-DM4 radio connection cable contains the required wires.
· If two MOTOTRBO radios are connected to RG-1000e GATEWAY, you may get power from both connected
MOTOTRBO radios. In this case it is strongly recommended to use a shared DC power supply for both
connected MOTOTRBO radios. 13.8 VDC power supply with 30A current load is sufficient for this task.
· You can turn-on and turn-off the "Getting power from connected devices" option using CPS RG-1000e. To do
this, you need to open the Radio 1 or Radio 2 settings (see the figure below) and select or clear the "Power
from connected device" check box.
If you clear the check box for both radios, the RG-1000e GATEWAY will be powered only via the Power socket.
Ensure that Power socket delivers power to the RG-1000e GATEWAY before turning off the option on both radios.
IMPORTANT! It is recommended to use a shared power supply unit for RG-1000e GATEWAY and mobile
radios. If independent power supply units are used, the negative leads of all power supply units must
be interconnected using the copper wire with a cross-section area no less than 14 AWG (2 mm 2)!
and configure RG-1000e GATEWAY Ethernet network parameters and RG-1000e GATEWAY Radio ports
parameters.
5. Turn off RG-1000e GATEWAY using the POWER button on its front panel. Connect RG-1000e GATEWAY to
the IP network equipment.

6. Configure the SmartPTT radioserver by specifying the IP address and the XCMP port of RG-1000e GATEWAY.
7. Connect the radio to RG-1000e GATEWAY using the interface cable.
8. Connect the power cable and antenna to the radio.
9. Connect the radio power cable to RG-1000e GATEWAY power supply unit.
IMPORTANT! It is recommended to use a shared power supply unit for RG-1000e GATEWAY and mobile
radios. If independent power supply units are used, the negative leads of all power supply units must
be interconnected using the copper wire with a cross-section area no less than 14 AWG (2 mm 2)!
WARNING! Pay special attention to quality and reliability of the connection of the negative radio supply
lead of the power cable to the power supply terminal. The cable accidental disconnection may lead to
RG-1000e GATEWAY breakdown!

IP channel
- Audio: The port of audio signal transmission from radio station to radioserver and backwards over the RTP
streams. This port is used for operation with the TCP / RTP connection protocol.
- ARS: The transmission port of data on registration of MOTOTRBO subscribers in the network. This port is
used for operation with the TCP / RTP connection protocol.
- TMS: The transmission port of text messages between the MOTOTRBO subscribers and readioserver. This
port is used for operation with the TCP / RTP connection protocol.
- Location: The transmission port of requests and messages about the location of MOTOTRBO subscribers
(GPS). This port is used for operation with the TCP / RTP connection protocol.
- Telemetry: The transmission port of requests and messages about the state of MOTOTRBO radio stations
telemetry contacts (GPS). This port is used for operation with the TCP / RTP connection protocol.
Attention! Do not use port 30010 for regular SmartPTT operations. The only port 30010 provides remote
Audio Monitor feature (in the Monitor section of CPS RG-1000e). It is strongly recommended to use port
30010 as the designated port for IP remote access to RG-1000e.
Note! The same port, for instance port 30020, may be used for XCMP, Audio, ARS, TMS, Location and
Telemetry services within one selected IP channel.
Attention! The same port or ports can not be shared between two or more IP channels. For each IP
channel unique port or ports must be assigned.
· Remote getaway settings. It is not used with SmartPTT Radioserver operations.
Mux
Mux window serves for the IP channel distribution between RG-1000e GATEWAY interfaces. The IP channels, not
connected to any interface, are considered to be disabled and are not used by RG-1000e GATEWAY.
Driver
Driver window is used for the management of RG-1000e LAN port settings:
· MDI/MDIX: The type of the connecting Ethernet cable, straight-through or crossed cable.
· Auto-Negotiation: Auto-negotiation of data transmission speed and mode.
· Fixed values of data transmission speed and mode.
To open the Driver window, double-click Driver on the RG-1000e panel.
When the Ethernet interface operates, side emission from the local network cable can penetrate into the radio
station receiver antenna. On some frequencies it can lead to radio station receiving of interference from RG-1000e
GATEWAY Ethernet interface. To reduce side emissions, RG-1000e enables the user to control the Ethernet
interface transmitter power. Power reduction decreases the emission level from the Ethernet cable. But it also can
lead to the error increase in the Ethernet packets reception depending on the connected network equipment. You
must check experimentally the compatibility and operational reliability of network equipment in partial operation
mode. You can set the transmitter power for operation with 5 meter cable only in exceptional cases, and you
must control the processes of reception and transmission of the Ethernet packets.
Pictures below show IP settings sample for RG-1000 remote access via IP.
· Select IP channel that will be used for remote access. It is recommended to use IP channel 8 for IP remote
access, since usually no more than two IP channels are used for SmartPTT operations and IP channel 8
typically is free;
· Set IP address, Subnet Mask, Gateway address, and Port for remote access. Port 30010 is recommended to
use for IP remote access, so port 30010 can not be reused for regular SmartPTT operations. Technically,
different ports may be used for IP remote access, but only port 30010 provides remote Audio Monitor feature (in
the Monitor section of CPS RG-1000e). This why we recommend to use only port 30010 for IP remote access.
Note! Don not leave Gateway gap blanked.
· In MUX section link IP channel 8 with Radio 1 port or Radio 2 port. It is recommended to link IP channel 8 with
Radio 2 port. There are no ways to get remote IP access to RG-1000e if IP channel that supposed for IP remote
access is not linked with Radio 1 or Radio 2 ports.
Note! If port Radio 2 is not used for regular operations it needs to turn-on Radio 2 port: navigate to
Radio 2 section -> Section -> Interface mode and select mode Transit Audio. Rest of settings in Radio 2
section are not required.
For this particular sample in Connection type to the gateway pop-up window setting gaps should be filled as shown
on the picture below.
