COMPARISION OF INDIAN AND AMERICAN
DEMOCRACIES

DEMOCRACY: Is the government in which power and civic responsibility are


exercised by all the adult citizens, directly or indirectly through their freely elected
representatives. Democracy rests upon principles of majority rule and individual
rights. There are two types of democracy- Direct and Indirect.

HISTORY OF BOTH THE COUNTRIES:

INDIAN: India got its independence from British on 15th August,1947. The
Parliament is the supreme legislative body. The first session of the Parliament was
on April, 1952. The first Prime Minister was Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and the first
president was Rajendra Prasad. The constitution of India came into force on
January 26th ,1950.

AMERICAN: The American Declaration of Independence was written by Thomas


Jefferson. On July 2nd , 1776 the congress voted to declare independence from
Britain. On July 4th, 1776, the congress accepted the declaration of independence,
making it an independence day. The American government is a democracy, where
the president has the absolute power. The first president of this nation is George
Washington.
