1.0 SCOPE
This specification provides the minimum requirements for the design, manufacture,
testing and supply of lighting fixtures and junction boxes suitable for installation in
non-hazardous areas on offshore platforms.
2.0 CODES & STANDARDS
2.1 The equipment supplied shall comply with the requirements of the latest revision of
the relevant standards of:
NEC - National Electrical Code
NEMA - National Electrical Manufacturer’s Association
BSI - British Standards Institution.
ANSI - American National Standards Institute
BIS - Bureau of Indian Standards
2.2 Any other recognized international standard or code may be used in lieu of above,
subject to approval of the Company.
3.0 SITE CONDITIONS
All the equipment shall be suitable for use in extreme, harsh marine environments. The
equipment shall be tropicalised and treated to protect the same against the site
conditions as specified in Specification-‘Site Conditions and Climate’ and traces of H2S
found in the atmosphere, if specified in equipment data sheet.
All painting shall be in accordance with Specification–‘Protective Coating’.
4.0 SCOPE OF SUPPLY
The scope of supply through this specification includes:
4.1 Lighting Fixtures.
4.2 Junction Boxes
4.3 Cable glands, lugs, plugs etc.
4.4 Clamps, Brackets etc. for fixture supports.
5.0 TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
5.1 GENERAL
5.1.1. All outdoor equipment shall be industrial type and shall have enclosure protection to
IP-55 or equivalent.
5.1.2 All indoor equipment (located in enclosed rooms) shall be industrial/decorative type
with enclosure protection to IP-20, as minimum. They shall be provided with
shrouding type terminals/live parts to make them shockproof, while cleaning,
relamping, replacement purpose etc.
5.1.3 The body of the equipment shall be cast metal and shall be free from frictional
sparking hazard. Copper or copper alloy shall not be used for manufacturing of any
exposed parts.

5.1.4 The equipment shall be suitable for mounting on poles/ceiling/columns. Suitable
Clamps/brackets required for installation shall also be supplied. These shall be made
of corrosion resistant material.
5.1.5 All hardware such as nuts, bolts, washers etc. shall be cadmium plated.
5.1.6 All lighting fixtures/junction boxes shall be provided with an internal earthing terminal.
5.1.7 Double compression type nickel/chromium plated brass cable glands and tinned
copper crimping type lugs shall be provided for all lighting fixtures and junction boxes.
5.1.8 The equipment shall be provided with gaskets made of non-inflammable and self-
extinguishing plastic material.
5.1.9 All equipments shall be painted as per Specification – “Protective Coating”.
5.1.10 Special tools, if required, shall be provided by the contractor as a free issue material.
5.1.11 All equipment nameplates shall bear the stamp of certifying agency.
5.2 LIGHTING FIXTURES
5.2.1 All fixtures shall be suitable for operation on 240+10% V, Single phase, 50+3% Hz
power supply.
5.2.2 All fixtures shall be provided with sheet steel vitreous enameled reflector. Fixtures
shall have double side entry suitable for connecting PVC insulated and sheathed,
armoured, copper conductor, FRLS cable and complete with termination accessories.
Spare plug shall be provided to block the unused entry. Adequate numbers of
terminals shall be provided to terminate two cables.
5.2.3 All industrial type outdoor lighting fixtures except flood lighting fixtures shall be
provided with steel wire protective cage having mesh dimensions of 50x50 mm.
5.2.4 The glass used for outdoor fixtures shall be clear and toughened type suitable for
conditions involving exceptional risk of mechanical damages. The lighting fixtures
shall have glass sealed into retaining ring, which in turn is secured to the body.
5.2.5 Incandescent lighting fixtures shall have lamp holders suitable for 40/60/100W lamps
for indoor installation and 100/200/400W lamps for outdoor installations.
5.2.6 Fluorescent lighting fixtures shall have rotor lamp holder suitable for 2x40W lamps.
5.2.7 Blended lamp fixtures shall have lamp holders suitable for Edison screw Cap Lamps
of rating 160W.
5.2.8 HPMV lighting fixtures shall have lamp holders suitable for Edison Screw Cap Lamps
of 80/125W
5.2.9 Flood light (HPMV) fixtures shall have lamp holders suitable for Edison Screw Cap
Lamps of 250/400W. Fixtures shall be provided with mounting brackets and base
plate for horizontal and vertical movements. Fixtures shall be capable of being locked
in position.
5.2.10 Controlgear for the HPMV light and flood light fixtures shall preferably form an integral
part of the lighting fixture. The control gear shall be quick starting, low loss type with
copper winding and shall have a power factor improvement capacitor for improving
the p.f. to 0.90.
5.2.11 All internal wiring shall be done with minimum 2.5 mm2 660V grade, PVC insulated
copper conductor wires.

5.3 JUNCTION BOXES
5.3.1 Junction boxes shall be provided with cable termination accessories for connecting
PVC insulated and sheathed, armoured, copper conductor, FRLS Cables. Minimum
number of side entries shall be three. Spare plugs shall be provided to block the
unused entries.
5.3.2 Adequate no. of the terminals shall be provided to terminate three cables. Sufficient
space for accommodating specified number of cables and easy access to their
terminals for termination purposes, shall be provided.
5.3.4 Four lugs shall be provided for mounting of junction box on wall/steel structure with
the help of bolts.
6.0 TESTING AND INSPECTION
Testing and inspection of lighting fixtures and junction boxes shall include but not
necessarily be limited to the following:
A visual inspection shall be made to ensure that the finishing and workmanship are
upto the mark.
Company reserves the right to witness the final testing and inspection. Prior
intimation of atleast 20 days shall be given to enable the Company to depute its
representative to witness the test.
7.0 VENDOR DATA REQUIREMENTS
7.1 Catalogue, technical literature, drawings giving details of make, catalogue no.,
overall dimensions, weight, material of construction and mounting details.
7.2 Copies of type test certificates.
8.0 CERTIFICATION
All offered equipment or equipment of similar design and construction features
manufactured by the same vendor:
- Shall have been type tested by an authority approved by the Company.
- Shall have been in continuous satisfactory service in offshore for a
minimum period two years.
Shall be having current certification/approval/listing by an agency approved
by Company or UL or FM.
9.0 PACKING AND TRANSPORTATION
The offered equipment alongwith their accessories shall be shipped to site packed
in wooden crates. They shall be wrapped with polythene sheets, before being
placed in the crates to prevent damage to finish. Crates shall have skid bottom for
handling.
