Human resource planning (HRP) involves determining an organization's needs for qualified employees both currently and in the future. It is an ongoing process that includes forecasting needs, developing a plan to meet those needs, and controlling the plan. The objectives of HRP are to ensure an adequate and optimal supply of human resources, avoid imbalances, improve employee skills, maintain good employee relations, and effectively organize human resources to control costs and recruit qualified candidates. HUMAN RESOURCE PLANNING


“HR planning is concerned with the determination of requirements of man
power for the organization both in terms of quantity and quality”
 DALE S. BEACH defines “HRP is the process of determining and ensuring
that the organization will have an adequate number of qualified persons
available at the proper timer performing jobs which meet the needs of
the enterprise and which provide satisfaction for the individuals
involved”

 ACCORDING TO GEISLER “HR planning is the process including


forecasting , developing and controlling by which that it has the right
number of people the right kind of people at the right places at the
right time doing work for which economically”

NATURE OF HRP:
1. HRP is the continuous and never ending process.
2. HRP is considered as a completeness process as it includes various
aspects of HRM.
3. It helps to improve the overall functions of HRM.
4. HRP acts as a tool to evaluate the effect of alternative man power
activities and policies.
5. It enhances cordial relationship between employer and employees.
6. It compels mgt to assess critically the strength and weaknesses of its
employees.
7. It avoids man power shortages and surpluses; thereby it reduces cost
of man power.
8. It is a better basis for planning and employees development.
9. It identifies the training methods of improve and develop the
workforce.

10. HRP Analyses organization human needs under changing conditions
and develops the activities necessary to satisfy their needs.
11. As organization gain experience in with greater demand and greater
resources available, increased is possible.
12. HRP helps in recruiting experienced talents well in advance of needs
both from campuses and from the market.
13. Effective HRP involves long range career development and long range
planning for utilization of human resources in an organization.
14. It facilitates the control of all the functions, operations, contribution
and cost of HR.
15. It acts as an aid in achieving organizational goals.

OBJECTIVES OF HRP:
 To ensure adequate supply of man power as and when required.
 To ensure optimum use of human resources in the organization.
 To assess surplus OR shortage of HR
 To avoid imbalances in the distribution and allocation of human
resources.
 To improved standard, skills, knowledge, ablility etc. of the exiting
employees.
 To maintain cordial relationship between employee and employer.
 To control the cost of human resources already available in the
organization.
 To formulate transfer and promotion polices.
 To organize the human resources effectively and efficiently.
 To recruit and retain the human resources of required quantity and
quality.

IMPORTANCE OF HRP:
HRP is the process of estimating the needs for human resources for
the right job at the right time in a right place. It has its own
importance .It is considered as an important tool of HRM as it helps
in the fallowing ways.
1) HRP helps the organization to recruit and retain right type of people in
right number at right time.
2) By maintaining the balance between demand and supply of human
resources HRP makes optimum use of human resources.
3) HRP helps the organization to create and develop training and
succession planning for employees and managers.
4) It aims at ascertaining the man power needs of the organization both
in number and kind.
5) HRP involves many functions like processing, developing, motivating,
compensating etc of human resources to achieve the organization goals.
6) It forecasts the needs of HR and concentrate on supply of right kind of
people at the right place and at the right time.
7) HRP is a pre-determined plan of action
