Graphic Novel
Manga
definition:
Manga are comics or
graphic novels originating
from Japan. Most manga
MANGA conform to a style
developed in Japan in the
late 19th century, though
the art form has a long
prehistory in earlier
Japanese art.
Manga are Japanese comics. The
Japanese term "manga" is often used
interchangeably with the American term
"graphic novel." However, unlike
American comics, manga is read from
right to left. The majority of English
translations of manga carry over the
original artwork, only replacing the
words. The style of manga artwork is also
very distinctive when compared to
American comics.
SHONEN- BOY'S MANGA
(Naruto, Bleach, One Piece)
SHOJO- GIRL'S MANGA
(Sailormoon)
SEINEN- MEN'S MANGA
(Akira)
JOSEI- WOMEN'S MANGA
(Loveless, Paradise Kiss)
KODOMO- CHILDREN'S MANGA
(Doraemon, Hello Kitty)
definition:
Graphic novel is an
American term that refers to
GRAPHIC book-length comics. These
NOVEL novels may be several
hundred pages in length and
tell a self-contained story in
comic art format.
Narrative in comic book formats
Narrative work in which the story is conveyed
to the reader using a comic form
The term is employed in broadly manner,
encompassing non-fiction works and
thematically linked short stories as well as
fictional stories across a number of genres
ARCHIE COMICS by John Goldwater and
illustrator, Bob Montana, is a good example.
Even though graphic novels and
manga have many differences,
they are alike in some
ways, one of them being that
they mostly use art to tell their
story. For scenery, what in a
normal book would take a few
sentences only takes one frame
in these kinds of books.
Manga and Graphic Novel
DIFFERENCES
Graphic
novels and comic books read left to
right. Graphic novels have a
choppier feel to them. Most manga GRAPHIC NOVEL
also have titles that were not fully
translated into English, and an
example of a graphic novel could
be a more modern version of a
comic book
Manga
reads right to left. The
reason that manga reads
MANGA “backwards” is because that is the
traditional way the
people read in Japan. Manga
has a more flowy style
CONCLUSION
Manga and American Graphic Novels are
both unique and great in every way and they
both have their smilarities and differences,
making them appeal to certain audiences
