Contemporary Literature

Activity: Comic, Graphic Novel, and Manga

For this activity, we will have a cross over in the Emergent Literature genre
In answering the questions below, use another platform or use your web creativity 😊
1. What is the difference among Comic, Graphic novel , Manga and Webtoon?

Comic medium of telling a story in forms of smaller stories that are released as issues,
where an issue would have a complete story starting and ending in it. Comic generally
produces monthly and usually has a good amount of action. According to my research,
you’ll also notice that a comic book uses staples to hold the pages together, a binding
method known as saddle stitching (Roth, 2020).

When it comes to a graphic novel, it comes with a hard or softcover, and has a glue-
bound spine much like a traditional novel (Roth, 2020). Also, it delves deeper into the
story lines of characters and history, not just action, and it completes the full arch of a
narrative by the end of the novel (Turk, 2012).

As for manga, it is a graphic novel which originated in Japan. A Japanese manga is

almost always black and white. Full-color prints are often only used for special releases.
Moreover, it is read right-to-left rather than left-to-right as it often feels like you’re
"reading backwards.”

On the other hand, a webtoon is a digital comic from South Korea which tends to be
serviceable to digital readers. Unlike manga, its content is full of colors in a vertical-
scrolled pattern.

2. What are the most popular Comic, Graphic Novel Manga and Webtoon?
3. Who is your Superhero? Why?
Best villain would be lex luthor because he proves that just because we're
human doesn't mean we can't stand up to superheroes. He proves that with
the right skill set and knowledge, an ordinary human can go toe to toe with a
superhero
