Moon Mission Insights

Charles Duke felt fascinated by space travel as a boy but showed no particular interest. He considered constantly being afraid of making a mistake to be the hardest part of his astronaut training. When he first found out he was going to the moon, he tried to control his excitement. When the crew landed on the moon, they realized they had achieved something special. The feature of the moon that made the greatest impact on Charles was the loneliness of the place. He feels the most memorable part of his mission was walking on the moon's surface and holding a piece of the moon.
