GENERAL NOTES TO ARCHITECTS AND CONTRACTORS
The owner/user must provide the services herein specified as well as adhere to any to any other normally
accepted electrical, mechanical or plumbing interfaces between users supply and this product.
Tuttnauer USA will not assume responsibility for problems that result from nonconformity with local
codes and specifications contained herein. The following conditions and services are required to be
provided by others for proper operation of the equipment.
1. Cold water supply – Use potable water. (Maximum hardness value 0.2mmol/l and PH > 6.5) -
70oF, 50-80 PSI
a. Back Siphonage prevention is required by others. Check local plumbing code and
install backflow preventer, if necessary.
b. When utilizing a water ejector for providing vacuum for dense loads, install a water
booster pump when dynamic pressure is at or below 30 psig dynamic and water volume
is attainable. A separate electrical service junction box is necessary and mechanical and
electrical plumbing hook-up is necessary by the customer.
2. For maximum efficiency hot water (140oF max) to be supplied when standard integral boiler is
selected ( cold water may be utilized with a reservoir). Stainless Steel boilers must be supplied
with water that requires higher purity specifications. In any event softened water systems shall
not be utilized.
. a. Water shall be tested prior to initial startup. If the mineral content exceeds the following
recommended limits, various external treatment processes i.e., Reverse Osmosis,
distillation, ion exchange, etc. may be used to correct the problem. Routine manual blow
down or an automatic blow down option lowers the concentrations of impurities and
maintains the pH above 7.0 in the boiler.
b. Feed water Quality Standard Steam Generator:
HARDNESS 8-85 PPM (0.5-5.0 GRAINS/GALLON)
CONDUCTIVITY NOT TO EXCEED 50K Ohms/CM
TEMPERATURE 140oF (60oC) max
c. For Stainless Steel Steam Generators: Feed water quality shall have a minimum
resisitivity of one megohm / cm (a conductivity of not more than one µmho).
It shall be the customers responsibility to have an analysis of the on-site boiler feed water
performed by a recognized Water Treatment Company to ascertain the existing condition
and treatment required to attain the quality of water necessary for their sterilizer
requirements.
GENERAL NOTES TO ARCHITECTS AND CONTRACTORS (cont)
3. It shall be the customers’ responsibility to provide a proper drainage system in accordance with
local codes. Under normal operating conditions, drain water from unit will not exceed
140oF (60oC). If cold water supply is cut-off, the temperature may exceed 200oF (93oC).
4. It shall be the customers’ responsibility to provide condensate free steam between 97% and 100%
saturated when house steam is required.
5. All utility supplies must be provided with Customer supplied shut off valves and labeled. For
safety, all shut off valves must be reachable when standing on the floor at the equipment
(i.e. water, steam, compressed air, etc.).
6. All vessel pressure relief valves should be piped and vented according to local codes. Caution
should be taken to ensure that the discharge capacity of the relief valve is not reduced.
Check ASME requirements and local codes.
7. Electrical Supply:
a) It shall be the responsibility to complete all electrical connections in accordance with
the National Electrical code and all applicable local codes.
b) A dedicated, permanently connected electrical supply with conveniently accessible
disconnect switch is required for each sterilizer electrical service.
