Greetings Dr. Andrade,

My name is Alexia, and I am writing to you to express my interest in the University of Florida’s
Dietetic Internship. I am currently a senior in the Nutrition and Dietetics program at the
University of North Florida and will be achieving a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and
Dietetics soon in April of 2021! I wish to advance my knowledge in dietetics while receiving
supervised practice to best prepare me to enter the field of dietetics as a Registered Dietitian.
My passion for nutrition began in my older teen years as I began exploring and
conducting research on my own. I was a dancer for most of my school years, and I wanted to fuel
my body in a way that would support superior performance. It did not take much time to see a
clear link between diet and disease as I continued research. I adopted a plant-based diet and saw
the power of nutrition start moving in my life. When I glanced around, the prevalence of disease
kneed me in the guts. This made me grow a strong desire to educate and help others achieve
wellness. With this passion, my short-term goal is to finish my last Spring semester strong to
graduate in the spring with my Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics from UNF and
attend your internship following graduation. The University of Florida has always been a dream
school of mine to attend. Therefore, the UF Dietetic Internship has been my number one choice
for an internship but not solely for that reason. It is also my first choice because of the
concentration in Nutrition Education and Wellness. The community aspect portrays strongly and
community is very dear to me. I have gained useful experience to propel me in my path. I have
experience in food service working with customers in a restaurant setting. I have also had the
opportunity to utilize my nutrition/supplement knowledge to help individuals reach their health
goals in retail. I have volunteered with various organizations in Jacksonville serving different
parts of the community, which is very rewarding. I am involved in numerous Nutrition clubs at
UNF including Student Nutrition and Dietetic Association and the Nutrition and Dietetic
Leadership Association. I am extremely motivated and passionate with an intense desire to learn.
These qualities combined with a driving need to always do my best in all that I do has allowed
me to excel in my coursework.
I believe that my experience, educational accomplishments, and personal qualities make
me an excellent candidate to be an intern at the University of Florida’s Dietetic Internship. It
would be an absolute honor to receive an interview to meet you and have the opportunity to
showcase my fitness as an intern.
