Ans Key Class 7 Worksheet CH 10 Science

This document discusses respiration in various organisms. It provides information about the respiratory organs of earthworms, cockroaches, fish, birds and dolphins. It defines anaerobes and describes the process of anaerobic respiration in muscle cells and aerobic respiration in muscle cells. It lists the percentages of oxygen and carbon dioxide in inhaled and exhaled air. It discusses the effects of no diaphragm movement and provides three differences between breathing and cellular respiration. It also names organisms that respire via tracheal systems and defines stomata.

Chapter- 10: Respiration in Organisms

Worksheet

1) Name the respiratory parts of the following:

a) Earthworms – Moist and slimy skin
b) Cockroach – Spiracles and Tracheae
c) Fish - Gills
d) Bird- lungs
e) Dolphins – Blowholes

2) What are anaerobes? What happens to glucose in absence of oxygen but presence of
anaerobes?
Ans2) The microorganisms which can survive in absence of air are called anaerobes.
Glucose is broken down anaerobically, carbon dioxide, alcohol and energy are produced.

3) Give the equation of anaerobic respiration taking place in the muscle cells.
Ans3) Without the use of Oxygen
GLUCOSE Lactic Acid+ Energy

4) Give the equation of aerobic respiration taking place in the muscle cells.
Ans4) In the presence of Oxygen
GLUCOSE Carbon Dioxide + Water + Energy

5) What is the percentage of oxygen and carbon dioxide in inhaled and exhaled air?
Ans 5)

INHALED AIR EXHALED AIR

PERCENTAGE OF OXYGEN 21 % 16.4 %
PERCENTAGE OF CARBON 0.04 % 4.4 %
DIOXIDE

6) What will happen if our diaphragm shows no movement?

Ans6) If diaphragm does not move then the size of chest cavity will not increase during
inhalation. There will not be enough space for lungs to expand and therefore not enough
oxygen will not be available for respiration.

7) Write at least three differences between breathing and respiration.

BREATHING RESPIRATION

Cellular respiration is the process of breaking down of

Breathing involves the process of inhaling
glucose to produce energy, which is then used by cells
oxygen and exhaling carbon dioxide
to carry out the cellular function.

Breathing occurs through respiratory organs,

Respiration takes place in cells
including the nose, lungs, etc.
Breathing is voluntary as well as an involuntary
physical process. (For example, breathing during
sleep is involuntary. Voluntary breathing is Respiration is an involuntary chemical process.
observed when we sing, speak, swim or for
relaxation techniques)

There is no production of energy in this process. Energy is produced.

8) Name the following:

a) An organism that respire by tracheal system - Cockroach
b) The air tubes of insects. - Tracheae
c) Small pores on leaves surface for exchange of gases - Stomata

9) A frog has a dual mode of breathing. Give reason.

Ans9) Though frogs have a pair of lungs like human beings, they can also breathe through
their skin, which is moist and slippery. As they live on both land and water, that is why they
have dual mode of breathing.

10) A dough of flour mixed with yeast powder after sometime smells sour. Why?
Ans10) As yeast respires anaerobically, alcohol is produced. This causes the sour smell.

Without the use of Oxygen

GLUCOSE Carbon Dioxide + Alcohol + Energy
