Student Notes:
Design Intent: Frequency Analysis on a Crank Shaft

You will perform the free frequency Analysis of crank shaft with flywheel mass. A
Frequency Analysis allows to know the modal frequencies of a part whether it is free
or restrained.
The flywheel is modeled using virtual parts on both sides of and mass is
applied on virtual parts. No restraint is applied to the crank shaft. This analysis type
is called ‘Free Frequency Analysis’.

Frequency Analysis
Apply Rigid Virtual Part on both sides of
crankshaft. The mass of the flywheel and the
damper geometry must be taken into account:
Apply 2kg mass equipment, on both ends using
virtual part as support. (2Kg mass on each virtual
part)
The flywheel and damper gravity centers are
represented and have to be used as part handler
points.
