There’s no real criteria for when to use MAKE and DO, although as a guideline
MAKE is used with expressions related to money (make a fortune, make a profit ... ), using the
gift of speech (make a phone call, make a speech, make a deal…), and using your hands (make
dinner, make your bed…).
DO is used in phrases relating to actions (do work, do a job, do exercise, do the washing up … )
and for unspecific actions (do something, do your best, do as much as you can, do good ... )
Make a list of the phrases you use the most, update it frequently and review it often.
