VIII. DESCRIPTION AND JUSTIFICATION:

Trees are essential to our world and offer a wide range of benefits to our environment. The

ecological importance of trees spread far beyond villages to our homes in Cities, School, and

Communities. Trees increase our quality of life by bringing natural elements into urban

settings thus, creating a community breathing space.

In the efforts to preserve, conserve and protect Mother Nature, and ultimately the Earth, the

College's Research Extension and Production Office in its initial community extension activity

under the Project I.M.E.L.D.A (Integrated Management of the Environment Through Learning

Development Advocacies) came up with the program of conducting a tree planting activity

which will be participated by the NSTP students and Faculty in coordination with the Las

Pinas Sangunniang Kabataan Council. The DFCAMCLP as the premier learning institution

of the City fully understands that tree planting is a noble way for the college to leave an

environmental legacy in the outlying communities.

Dr. Filemon C. Aguilar Memorial College of Las Pinas

As a result of their participation in this program, the students of DFCAMCLP and the Las

Pinas City SK Federation can achieve a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment, which

emanates from creating a positive difference through community service.

The program enables great team interaction and sustainable collaboration among the

teachers, students, and Youth community leaders while having fun and giving back to the

environment. Moreover, this is a good opportunity for the Youth Leaders and the students to

become more ecologically aware on the importance of having a community “Breathing

Space”.

The DFCAMCLP Research and Extension Office and the NSTP faculty, on its part, shall

identify the program sites within the political jurisdiction of the Local Government Unit (LGU);

provide manpower, coordinate with the SK and LGUs in the implementation of safety and

security measures among the participants during the conduct of the program; mobilize its

resources, and the monitoring of all the Barangay areas involved

This activity is an environmental education project vital to the implementation of the CHED

mandated Service education. NSTP students, through their active participation, will discover

an awareness of the importance of tree planting, and how it contributes to the production of

oxygen which is vital to our overall well-being.

Thus, like trees firmly planted on rich grounds, this undertaking involving our students and

faculty students will pay forward investment for years to come. This pursuit is also a good

opportunity to raise the value of friendship, unity, cooperation, and community spirit. The

three-hour tree planting activity is also the College’s way of addressing disaster risk reduction

and mitigating the effects of climate change.
