[ Kick off Summer with a burst of color ]

Summertime brings lots of things: pool parties, popsicles, and my
SUMMERTIME favorite – a variety of birds eating at our feeders. My husband and
I love bird watching in the warmer months. For this card, I took the
CARD sweet chevron paper from Oh Happy Day, cut it to fit my cardstock,
and then added a second layer of blue cardstock on top. Two cute

which acts as the wire spanning across for them to sit on.

Red, White and Blue all the way! This being our
first July issue of the PaperCut, we decided to
have a strong 4th of July Theme on the cover.
This month we allowed the team to try out for
the cover and three of our talented gals took
the spots. With Oh Happy Day as our collection
of the month, we picked three cards from Nina
Yang, Amanda Coleman, and Clare Prezzia. All
three of these cards had such personality and
worked so well together on a white and denim
background.

Happy Fourth by Clare Prezzia

I feel in love with the "clothespin heart line" and

strong Red, White and Blue combo. This card
holds a wonderful presence on the cover and
it has a country feel to it. Perfect for this great
holiday.

Darling by Amanda Cloeman

This card was so playful and anyone getting it

in the mail, would giggle from it's funny quote.
The popped up clouds and pinwheel adds
beautiful height and texture in a perfect way.

Happy 4th of July by Nina Yang

What's not to love about this card?! The bright

colors and clean white title, plus lets not forget
that darling star among the clouds. I could
see this card being used for a 4th of July party
invite, which would have the guest's mouths on
the floor (from all the design elements). If I got
an invite like this in the mail, I would be R.S.V.P-
ing. right way.

Party hardy with this exciting
celebration of birthday themes

13 | gcdstudios.com gcdstudios.blogspot.com
My son's tenth birthday was a big deal and I envisioned lots of balloon
BIRTHDAY like shapes on my page. I went with patterned papers and a few photos
of my son blowing out candles inside of the circles. To create the look of
MEMORIES conjoined circles, I first traced out my design onto the cream paper. I used
my old Coluzzle to cut out the circles inside and out (you can also use an
by Pam Callaghan exacto knife). The brightly colored papers gave the balloon appearance
all over the page. The dark background made everything pop.

2 Birthday Gift Wrap

Birthdays and butterflies ~ I can't think of a better combination for Summer!

Gift wrap The Bonjour papers were perfect for helping me create these gifts without
being over-the-top girly. The gifts were also easy to make ~ I just traced the
by Tegan Skwait box and wooden bag, cut out the papers, and adhered the papers to the
packages. I used the Silhouette Cameo to cut out the Happy Birthday sign and
I hand cut the butterflies. I wanted to make these gifts somewhat simple so the
embellishments didn't overpower the great jagged chevron pattern of the Au
Revoir paper. These gifts were super fun to make and I plan to make more!

PARTY
HAT
by Mary Ann Jenkins

Although my daughter's birthday is still

four months away, she has already
started planning her party after seeing
this sweet little party hat.
The hat was easy to make with just a
piece of 12x12 paper and a few scraps
for accents. To start, I rolled the paper
into a cone shape and hot glued at the
seam. I trimmed a bit of the paper from
the bottom edge so it would sit level, then
added the pretty maribou feather trim.
I punched a few scalloped circles and
added the number 4, then hot glued two
thin pieces of ribbon to the sides to tie it
easily on her head.

6 Birthday Invitations

There's no happier day than your birthday, and the Oh Happy Day collection
invitation is perfect for creating the perfect invitation to your soiree. Inspired by the
garden feel of these papers, I created a garden party-themed invite, bursting
by Tessa Buys with blooms and feminine detail Beginning with a base floral pattern, I layered
a paper doily and a fussy-cut rose and banner. Lifting the last piece with foam
adhesive gives the card dimension. The banner is the perfect place for the
"you're invited" sentiment. I fussy-cut another rose and added it to the corner
of the inside of the invitation, repeating the motif and adding color.

sassy stripes

For this page I choose several patterns to make my own stripes

technique 1 "paper". I mismatched the the size of the stripes to add some

messy
depth to on the page. I also choose the colors to coordintate with
the colors of the shirt in the photo, and I think the patterns in the

layers

the stripes works your eye down the page of the layout.

the dog days of summer by Tegan Skwiat

Take a bit of the Splendor collection and add a splash of the Country Charm
collection and you get the perfect color palette for summer photos! That is what I
did here and it really put me in a beachy mood. But since I didn't think it was a good
idea to haul my layout and supplies to the beach, I brought the beach to my layout!
Yep, I put sand on part of my title!! Simply brush on a coat of liquid glue - I used
Martha Stewart glitter glue - and pour on the sand. Let dry and repeat once more
for better coverage. I just love the texture it adds to the layout!

Editor's Pick

ice cream cards by Teri Anderson

Ice cream is the ultimate Summer treat. I mean, gosh, who doesn't love a big scoop
of ice cream at the end of a hot day? Besides the perfect way to cool off and being
superdelicious, it's also provides great inspiration for making a couple sweet cards
for Summer. And the best part: It's fat-free in paper form! For the "Let's Chill" card, I
used a big circle punch to cut the circles. I finished off my scoops with a cherry cut
from a piece of patterned papers and a few pearls. I used a little circle punch for
the other card.

SUPPLIES: GCD Studios Pattern Papers: Bonjour: Paris Je T'Aime (1534); Oh Happy Day: Mira's Pearls (1764);
Country Charm: Cherry Pie (1504), Sweet Floral (1512), Country Bloom (1505).

29 | gcdstudios.com gcdstudios.blogspot.com
1
It's really easy to make ice cream
scoops from GCD's patterned
papers. Start by cutting several
circles from patterned paper. Any
size circle punch works well.

2
Be sure to ink the edges to give
each circle a little extradimension.
Then use your scissors to cut a free-
style border of sorts for each scoop
from matching paper. You'll see
none of mine look quite the same.

3
Now, just start stacking up your cone.

4
Start with a circle. Then add one
your free-style borders to it. Then do
it again and again. Keep going until
you have a cone you are happy
with it.

splash, splash, splash by Audrey Yeager

I was thinking about layers of waves, so I took some strips of blue paper and used
a border punch on one long edge. Then I punched some random small holes and
layered them in the middle of my page. I was inspired by the oval shape of the raft,
so I stitched an oval over my strips and created an oval shaped journaling area. I
found a water splash cutting file online which I cut with my electronic die cutting
machine. I used the cut out pieces for embellishment, but I also used the negative as
a mask for painting some water splashes, and also for doing a little heat embossing
with some clear embossing powder.

Use It.
For my layout, I pretty much
followed the sketch exactly, using
the cute fussy cut flowers in place
of the circles. The page title is
still at the top, and I followed the
shape of the banner strips at the
bottom to add more words to
the title. The fun "Oh Happy Day"
flag is part of the bar code strip
from one of the papers in the Oh
Happy Day collection, and with
little machine stitching, and some
pearls and my layout is compete!

Alter It.
I chose to change the circles to
layered flowers and bring the up
the from the bottom just as the
sketch. My photos also were flip
flopped with the largest photo
to the left instead of on the
right. I stitched my title on the
bottom and added a few pretty
butterflies to my page.
