Blockchain in Education

This document discusses applications of blockchain technology in education. It identifies key problem areas in the existing education system such as offline record keeping, lack of unique student identities, and issues with skills credentialing and intellectual property protection. Blockchain offers solutions to these problems through its distributed ledger which allows for transparent and secure record keeping, verification of student credentials, and management of skills and intellectual property. Several blockchain education initiatives are highlighted that aim to address these issues through digital credentialing, open access publishing, and research management platforms. The future of blockchain in education is seen as empowering learners to own and control their educational data and credentials through transparent and tamper-proof systems.

PROBLEM AREAS
The educational sector is moving through a phase of disruption over the course of the last decade with increasing shift to
digital modes for knowledge transfer. The shift to digital mode offers a wide range of opportunities to streamline the
operations in an erstwhile bureaucratic setup. But in order to fully leverage the potential of digital transformation in the
education sector, we need to first understand the key problem areas in the existing setup.

FUTURE of the INITIATIVES
Adoption was slow before pandemic, but suddenly there are many uses cases popping up.

● Student's data becomes accessible, transparent, verified and secure without the need for
continuing intervention by a third-party educational institution.
● Blockchain technology could empower students to access and control their own educational
data on e-portfolios, feedback and accreditation.
● Students can connect their accreditation directly with job portal like LinkedIn, Naukri.com
etc. It could be game changer for the industry as chances of tampering would be zero.
● Offline Record keeping can be completely replaced with Blockchain technology without
fearing data loss or tampering.
● Blockchain enables innovators to place a set of proofs around core IP that leave no margin
of any doubt for even the narrowest claims
