OUR COMMUNITY
The Larchmont-Mamaroneck community is located eighteen miles northeast of New York City on Long Island Sound in
Westchester County. This established suburb is largely residential with some light industry. There is a rich diversity in the
community both in terms of race/ethnicity/socioeconomic and how people make their living, including a significant number of
immigrant families whose children will be the first to attend college in the United States. Many residents are business and
professional people who make the short commute to New York City by rail. Still others work more locally in the service
industries located in the town or in the shops and other small businesses which dot the community.

Grading system:
● MHS uses a numeric grading system. Lowest passing grade is 65 out of 100. Cumulative grades are computed at
the end of junior year (11th grade, sixth semester) to determine the final grade point average.
● The average is rounded off to the nearest one hundredth. All subjects for which credit has been awarded are
included in the GPA, excluding Pass/Fail courses and classes taken at other schools.
● Failed courses are included in the GPA.
● When Algebra, Earth Science or World Language courses are taken at the middle school, they are reflected on the
MHS transcript and included in the students’ final GPA.
● Mid-year grades from senior year are sent to all colleges to which the senior has applied.
● GPAs are calculated for students who have received at least eight credits at MHS.
● There are 401 students in the MHS graduating class of 2020 and 397 of those students will receive a GPA.
● HONORS AND ADVANCED PLACEMENT COURSES ARE NOT WEIGHTED IN THE CALCULATING
OF THE AVERAGE BUT ARE CLEARLY INDICATED ON THE STUDENTS’ TRANSCRIPTS.
● Mamaroneck High School does not provide an exact rank for our seniors. We provide a graph demonstrating the
frequency distribution of GPAs. Please see below.
