Q3 Lesson 65 TG

This lesson teaches students about visualizing congruent polygons through hands-on activities with polygon cutouts. Students will identify congruent polygons by measuring their sides and angles, then pasting matching pairs on the board. The lesson reinforces that two polygons are congruent if they have the same shape and size with corresponding sides and angles that are congruent. Students apply their learning by identifying congruent objects in the classroom and differentiating between identical and congruent figures.

Lesson 65: Visualizing Congruent Polygons

Week 4

Objective: Visualize congruent polygons

Value Focus: Wise Judgement

Prerequisite Concepts and Skills

- Visualizing congruence of polygons
- Identifying congruent polygons

Materials: circular cut outs, PPT presentation

References: K to 12 Curriculum Guide, M5GE-IIId-22

Instructional Procedure:
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Drill
Climbing the ladder mechanics.
 Group the pupils into two; boys and girls. Let them select one
representative for each question.
 Flash the cutouts of each geometric figures and let it be identified.
 The pupils who will answer the question will step one ladder up.
The first group to rich the top will be the winner.
2. Review
Guessing game- What am I?
a. I am 3-sided polygon with congruent sides.
b. I am a 4-side polygon with congruent sides.
c. I have 10 sides.
d. I am a four sided polygon with one pair of parallel side.
e. I have 8 sides.
f. I have 6 sides.

3.) Motivation
Look at our blackboards. Do they have the same size and shape? Look around
the room. What objects have the same size and shape?

B. Developmental Activities
1. Presentation
Materials: cut outs of polygons, ruler, protractor
Mechanics:
a. Group the pupils into 4’s.
b. Distribute envelopes with cut outs of polygons.
c. Let the pupils trace the polygons inside the envelope and cut it with scissors.
Let them measure the sides and the angles. Let them paste the polygons in pair
in the board.

d. Ask the pupils: What polygons have you traced and cut? What can you say
about the size, shape and angles?
2. Performing the Activity
What are the names of the polygons that are congruent?
What are their measurement?
What do you call the polygons that have the same size and shape?

3. Processing the Activities

After the activity, ask the pupils what did they use to say that a polygon is
congruent? Were they able to answer the questions? Put immediate action on
the pupils that find it hard to perform/answer the activity.

4. Reinforcing the Concept Skill

a. Discuss the presentation on Explore and Discover on page ___ of LM in Math
Grade 5
b. Ask the pupils to work on Get Moving on page ____ of LM in Math Grade 5

5. Summarizing the Lesson

Lead the pupils that:

Two polygons are congruent if:

a. Both have the same shape and size.

b. Tracing of one fits the other.
c. Their corresponding angles and sides are congruent.

6. Applying to New and Other Situations

1. Look at the things inside the classroom and identify the congruent sides or
faces.
a. books d. tables
b. chalkboard e. walls
c. cabinets

2. Find pair of figure in your classroom that shows congruency.

3. Differentiate identical objects. How are they similar?

C. Assessment

Write the letter of the figure that is congruent to the first figure.

1.
2.

3.

4.

5.

D. Home Activity
Remediation

Draw 2 congruent figures of the following polygons.

1. trapezoid
2. octagon
3. pentagon
4. isosceles
5. decagon
Enrichment

Which figures appear to be congruent? Name the pairs.
