Purpose: Exporting TPS1200 Data through a format file via a Bluetooth


Link to a PC.
Instrument: TPS 1200 Series with Bluetooth enabled side cover

1. Prepare instrument for download


a. Switch on Instrument
b. From the main menu select, 4 CONVERT
c. From the Convert Data Menu select, 1 EXPORT DATA FROM JOB

2. Set up “Export Data from Job” menu


a. Set EXPORT TO to RS232 from drop down menu
b. Press IFACE (F5)
i. Set USE DEVICE to YES
ii. Set PORT to PORT 3 (BT)
iii. Check to see if DEVICE is set to RS232, if not press DEVICE (F5)
and select RS232 from the “Others” page

3. Define Job to be Exported from TPS1200 Menu


a. Select JOB to be exported
b. Choose Coord System if necessary
c. Choose Format file as required (see image above right for an example)

4. Setup Microsoft Hyper Terminal to control download.


a. Start Hyper Terminal. This is typically found
from the Windows “start” menu under the path
“All Programs / Accessories / Communications /
Hyper terminal”
b. Set up connection and Icon (see image on right)
c. Select Com Port for Bluetooth device attached to
PC
d. Set up

e. A couple of seconds after clicking the Apply button in the Set up properties
panel the Bluetooth Icon on the PC task bar should turn Green and the
instrument should Beep and arrows appear next to the Bluetooth icon on the
TPS1200. If this does not happen you do not have communication. Please note
that if your Bluetooth icon on the PC task bar is red you will need to right
click on it and select “Start Bluetooth Device”.

5. Use Hyper terminal


a. From the Hyper Terminal menu select Transfer / Capture text.
b. In the Capture Text window click on the Browse button to define where you
want the file from the instrument saved and name the file you want to save
e.g. survey.fld
c. Press Start on Hyper terminal
d. Press F1 (Cont) on TPS1200
e. Data should now flow and be stored in file as set up in 5b above
f. When finished transferring, in Hyper Terminal select Transfer / Capture text /
Stop
g. Upon closing Hyper terminal you will be asked if you want to save the set up,
if you answer Yes it will create a icon under All Programs / Accessories /
Communication / Hyper terminal (you will have 2 Hyper Terminal options,
please check both). This icon can be dragged to the desk top and when
selected it will automatically start the communication process meaning steps
4a –4e will NOT need to be repeated
