PART – A

Answer any FOUR questions (4X2=8 marks)

1. State Ohms law.

2. The current through 100 Ω resistor is 0.5A. Find the power rating of
the resistor.

3. What is node?

4. Write the expression to convert the star connected resistors into


equivalent delta connection.

5. Convert 5030 into rectangular form.

6. Write the expression for impedance in RL and RLC series circuit.

7. Write the condition for series and parallel resonance.

8. Write the relationship between line current and phase current in


delta connected system.

PART – B

Answer any FOUR questions (4X3=12 marks)

9. State Coulomb’s laws of electrostatics.

10. Derive an expression for the equivalent capacitance of three


capacitors connected in parallel.

11. Three 15 Ω resistors are connected in delta. What is the equivalent


resistance of star?

12. State Maximum power transfer theorem.

13. Derive an expression for the impedance in RL series circuit.

14. Compare series and parallel resonance.

15. What is meant by phase sequence?

16. Write the expression for powers in three phase system.

PART – C

Answer any THREE questions (3X10=30 marks)

17. (i) Derive an expression for energy stored in a capacitor.

(ii) Three resistors of 1 Ω, 2Ω and 3Ω are connected in series across a


12 V supply. Find the voltage drop across each resistor and also
determine the power dissipated in each resistor.

18. Find the current in 100Ω resistor using super position theorem.

19. A coil of resistance 10Ω and an inductance 0.3mH is connected in


series with a capacitor of 150µFd across 200V, 50Hz supply.
Calculate (i) Inductive reactance (ii) Capacitive reactance
(iii) Impedance (iv) Current (v) Power factor and (vi) Power in the
circuit.

20. (i) Derive an expression to find the resonant frequency in a series


circuit.
(ii) A coil of 30Ω resistance has an inductance of 0.2H and is
connected in parallel with a capacitor of 200mFd. Calculate the
frequency at which the circuit will act as a non-inductive
resistance of R Ohms. Find the value of R.

21. In a RLC series resonant circuit, R=5Ω, L=20 mH and C=0.5µFd. The
circuit is connected across a 200V AC supply. Find (i) Resonant
frequency (ii) Q-factor (iii) Half power frequencies (iv) Band width
(v) Power consumed at resonance.

22. Derive an expression for measuring of power and power factor in a


3Ø circuit by using two-watt meter method for balanced load.
