Practical Research 1 Module 1 Answer Sheet Name: Jay C. Sempron Section:11-Pedia

The document provides information and activities for a practical research methods course. It includes pre-tests to assess students' existing knowledge of qualitative research methods. Activities define key qualitative research terms and have students identify the type of qualitative research depicted in scenarios. Students also analyze the strengths and weaknesses of qualitative research, and its importance in fields like information and communication technology, sports, and the humanities. A performance task asks students to summarize writings on a topic of their choice by organizing similarities, identifying common concepts, and noting differences. The goal is to help students understand and apply qualitative research methods.

I. Instruction: Describe qualitative research in the following areas:

a. Epistemology-The benefits of using qualitative data may best be understood by examining the

underlying philosophical views, particularly from an epistemological perspective, as the nature of
knowledge is characterized and classified by purpose and design.

b. Focus-A market research method that focuses on obtaining data through open-ended and

conversational communication.

c. Nature of data-This data type is non-numerical in nature. This type of data is collected

through methods of observations, one-to-one interviews, conducting focus groups, and
similar methods.

d. Data analysis-Analyzing qualitative data entails reading a large amount of transcripts looking for

similarities or differences, and subsequently finding themes and developing categories.

II. Give 1 strength and 1 weakness of qualitative research.

Strengths-Provide more detailed information to explain complex issues.

Weakness-More difficult to analyst don't fit neatly in standard categories.

III. Explain the importance of qualitative research in the following fields of inquiry:

Qualitative research is a growing field of inquiry that cuts across disciplines and subject matter.
Qualitative research provides valuable data for use in the design product-including data about user
needs, behavior patterns, and use cases.

a. ICT-A broader term for Information Technology (IT), which refers to all communication

ASSESSING PERFORMANCE

Performance Task with RUBRIC

Your task is to read 10 writings (blogs, books, e-books, news article, editorial, poem, song, research
paper) about a topic that interests you most (ex.: Women in Basketball). Organize the similarities laid out
in all the literature you have read in a table. Then, write a two-page summary of what you have read,
following the guide questions below.

1. What are the writings all about? How to Take Care of Freshwater Aquatic Life: Tips for New Fish
Parents

2. What is the common concept presented in all of these writings about the topic you have chosen? Tips
on having a pet fish is some days are ups some days are downs.

3. What differences/ opposing ideas did you read from these writings.

This article says, “ Plan to replace 25 percent of the water in your aquarium once a month “ I
change it Weekly & I don’t leave 25% of the old water in my tank because of what kind of water I
use every time. The water I use is from the well which is ours, I don’t use the local water system
because it has a little bit chlorine in it and I know that a little chlorine seems nothing but for the
fish it is dangerous for them even a small amount of chlorine. Because some fish especially the New
ones, the ones that you didn’t grow up in your pond since a fry or the ones that can’t adapt to the
water that’s one of the big problems on fish keeping.

4. What can you conclude about the topic that you have chosen?

I really love fish keeping because it really feels like ( example rani ) after all the problems I
encountered and the stress I have. It’s a middle of the night ,a really quiet night I took my flash
light and look at all my fish for almost 3 hours. & after that I’m so relieved like a very heavy thing
that has been on my back for weeks or months has been lifted like that kind of feeling
PEACEFUL<3

5. Despite the set backs: For example when my fish dies, I still continue to have them as pets because
I really love them and I turn my Hobby into business, all I did 4 Years ago is BUY, BUY, BUY
ohhh this fish has nice colors, Ohhh!! This fish is imported GOOD BYE 2000 pesos for only a Pair.
But now my fish successfully hatch maybe 1000+ (Dumbo Ear Mosaic Guppy) it hasn’t been a year
yet I wasn’t expecting this much for only 4 Males and 8 Females. Some of the fry’s will die from
starvation, dragon fly larvae, sickness and Etc so were talking about 600+ successfully survived on
the FRY stage, and on the Juvenile stage maybe about 200+ died for unknown reasons. And finally
400+ made it to the adult stage 150+ of those 400 guppys I executed them ( fed it to the flowerhorn )
because I was really looking forward to the Parents line. Those guppys that are executed are called
“ Chaps “ it means it has uhm maybe an ugly or a mix of color etc. I feel sorry but I has to be done
for the sake of my business.
