Heartache and Self-Reflection

The song is about loving someone who is selfish. In the chorus, the singer acknowledges that she shouldn't love this person but couldn't help it, and that she always knew he was too selfish. Over the course of two verses and a bridge, she describes how he spent their time together in nightclubs instead of giving her real love, lies, and runs from his problems instead of solving them. In the end, she realizes it's not possible to change him and that she's not responsible for his self-created obstacles that "put my heart in the hospital."
