Announcement of Doctoral Scholarship
“Energy Management for Microgrids”
The TUM SEED Center for Sustainable Energies, Entrepreneurship and Development at the Technical University
of Munich (TUM) is part of the long-term DAAD program “exceed – Excellence Centers for Exchange and
Development”, funded by Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development 2020-2024. The TUM
SEED Center aims to contribute to sustainable development by offering higher education and conducting research
at the intersection of sustainable energies and entrepreneurship in the Global South (https://www.seed.tum.de).
The TUM SEED Center collaborates closely with leading technical universities from the Global South, including
Bahir Dar University (Ethiopia), Bandung Institute of Technology (Indonesia), Indian Institute of Technology Bombay
(India), Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (Kenya), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science
and Technology (Ghana), Makere University (Uganda), Namibia University of Science and Technology (Namibia),
and Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (Peru).
Hereby the TUM SEED Center announces a doctoral scholarship in “energy management for microgrids”.
We seek an excellent and engaged student from the Global South, who fulfills the following criteria:
First-class master degree in electrical engineering;
High interest in sustainable development and making a difference in the world;
High proficiency of English (verified by a recognized English language certificate);
High interest in scientific working and writing;
Willingness to conduct research in an interdisciplinary environment relating to sustainable energies and
entrepreneurship in cooperation with at least two partner universities listed above.
The TUM SEED Center offers:
100 % scholarship funded by DAAD to write the doctoral dissertation in a maximum of 4 years;
Doctoral position at one of the leading Technical Universities of the world;
Guidance and supervision by Prof. Dr. Thomas Hamacher, who holds the chair for Renewable and Sustainable
Energy Systems (https://www.ei.tum.de/en/ens/homepage/);
Interesting research at the intersection of sustainable energies and entrepreneurship in the Global South;
Mobility grants for research trips to partner universities in the Global South and their Living Labs;
A worldwide research and collaboration network.
