Bunny
Oh the expressions that will be shared when this Skills Used:
little bunny reaches the hands of a loved one. • Machine-sewing straight and
curved seams
• Sewing Darts
• Fusible web applique to attach
eyes
• ladder stitch for closing seam
openings.
• basting (with sewing machine)
• Sewing in tight spaces
• Backstitching
• Snipping and notching seam al-
lowance to allow seams to lie flat.
• There are basic definitions for sew-
ing terms at the end of the instruc-
tions.
Suggested Fabrics:
This pattern is designed to be used
with different types of fabric including
woven or knit. The choice of fabric
will change the look of the finished
softie a small amount. A woven softie
will not be as full and slightly taller. A
knit fabric will create a more plump,
shorter finished softie.

Cutting the fabric:
Bunny 4 Tutorial
1. This is an optional layout to pin your pattern pieces onto the fabric. Make sure to follow the
arrows for the grain line. If there is no arrow, the grain line does not matter.
2. This layout is for cutting on minky or other fabrics that require to only cut 1 piece at a time.
Remember to turn directional pieces so you get pieces that are opposite of each other.
Alternately if you are cutting on cotton or a woven fabric you can fold the fabric to get
mirrored images that way as well.
3. If cutting from fur or minky, make sure the pattern pieces are placed so the furs/naps
direction is going down the body.
4. Before starting make sure to mark all dots and notches onto the fabric for ease of sewing
later. This can be done by poking a hole in pattern on the dots to transfer marks onto the
fabric and using scissors to cut a small notch into the seam allowance where shown. There
are more directions about what dots and notches look like at the end of the instructions.

Before you begin:
• Briefly read through the instructions so you know what to expect.
• The seam allowance is 1/4” throughout this project, unless other wise indicated.
• “Right sides together” will be shorted to RST.

4. Using 2 strands of embroidery floss and the pattern as a guide, stitch the eye shine onto the
eyes by using 3-4 straight stitches next to each other. Another option is to use white fabric
paint to add a small dot on each eye to create the eye shine.
5. Using the paper face pattern piece as a placement guide, cut out the eyes and nose outline
and line it up over the fabric face piece.
6. Place the eyes and nose in place. (Pin if worried about moving).
7. Iron in place before removing the paper.
8. Applique the eyes into place.

Legs
1. This is the most important part to have marked. Mark both Q and R on the leg and foot pad. If
you haven’t done that yet, do it now, it will make the foot much easier.
2. With the RST line up the foot pad with the leg from Q-R. Ease it around the slight curve.
Stitch. Make sure to only stitch from one dot to the next. Don’t go to the end of the fabric.
3. With the other half of the leg, line up Q-R on the foot pad again and stitch. Remember to only
stitch between the dots. Don’t go to the end of the fabric. When opened this is what it looks
like.
4. Line up your 2 leg pieces and stitch from the top of the leg down to T. Again, stop at the T,
don’t go to the end of the fabric. Clip curves.
5. Stitch from the top of the foot down to U, make sure to leave the gap for stuffing.

6. Pull the bottom of your foot apart (at R) to open the foot pad and lay it flat against the leg piece.
The front of the leg and foot pad should line up. Stitch to close the gap, from R-R.
7. Do the same with the back, lining up U with the middle of the back foot pad. Stitch from Q-Q.
Clip curves. Turn Right side out. Repeat for second foot.

4. Turn over so right side is up and mark placement of tail with a washable fabric pen by cut-
ting the half circle out of the paper pattern and tracing it onto the fabric. Also do this on the
right and wrong side of the fabric of 1 tail piece. So you’ll have it marked on both sides of the
tail.
5. If desired, fold the marked tail piece into fourths and snip a small hole in the center of the
tail.
6 7 8
6. Line up the tail and the back RST using the markings you just added, while also using the
small hole to make sure it’s over the seam of the body back.Turn right side out. Pin into place.
7. Sew on the marked circle.
8. Pin the tail up out of the way.

12. Back to the tail: Use scissors and create a hole by carefully clipping inside the circle
through both the tail and body back, do not clip through your stitching.
13. Push the tail through the hole you just created. Finger press open.

14. Place the second tail piece RST onto the tail/body.
15. Sew around the outer edge. Clip Seams.

3. Pinch the legs so the seams of the legs are touching each other.
4. Place the leg where indicated on back body. The back of the leg needs to be touching the
right side of the fabric, with the toes pointing up.
5. The legs need to be placed at an angle. Use the guides on the back body pattern piece to
place them at the correct angle. This illustration hopefully helps your understanding.
6. Baste into place.
7. Do a little check at this point by pulling the legs down and making sure they are straight.

8. With right sides together pin the belly to the back body matching up X-L-X. Start with the bot-
tom seam L and work up, one side at a time.
9. Make sure the legs, arms and tail are tucked up inside the body and not caught in a pin. We
don’t want to stitch any of them into the side of the body.
10. Baste.
11. Open up the body and make sure you like the placement of the legs, that they are straight and
going the right direction. If they are, stitch closed. If not, be grateful all you did is baste, reposi-
tion things and try again.

4. Pull the body out of the head and keep it wrong side out.
5. Line up the neck seam and stitch from W up to I, leaving an opening at the top of the head for
stuffing.
6. Turn right side out. Remember to pull that little tail out too, if you haven’t already!
Stuffing
1. Stuff the tail.
2. Stuff the body before filling the head.
3. Stuff the head.
4. Stuff the arms and legs. Do small pieces of stuffing at a time so you don’t get any unusual
lumps.
5. Stuff firmly so the seams are smooth and don’t wrinkle.
6. Ladder stitch each opening closed.
7. You’re done! Congratulations I’m sure it looks great! If your interested in showing off your new
stuffed animal consider joining us on the Misty’s Whimsies Facebook group. We all love to see

Seam Allowance:
This is the distance between the cutting line and
the sewing line and is 1/4” wide in this pattern.
Place on Fold:
This is the solid line with two arrows at right angles
that point to the pattern piece edge. It indicates
that the pattern piece should be placed along a
folded edge of fabric.
Notch:
The short line intersecting on the cutting line. These short lines mark where to position adjoin-
ing project pieces for sewing. You should transfer these markings onto the fabric by clipping it
into the seam allowance after cutting out the pieces.
Dart:
This is a fold which will be sewn into the fabric to provide shape to the project. To make a dart
we first mark the points to the fabric piece. Fold the dart in half with right sides together and
matching the right and left fabric edges. Next, pin and sew along one side of the dart line, until
you reach the mark. With a dart, the seam allowance starts at 1/4” but then gradually sewing off
the edge of the fabric at the indicated mark.
Basting:
This is a straight stitch in a long stitch length used to temporarily hold pieces in place before
the actual seam is sewn to attach them. Basting is always done within the seam allowance so
that the stiches are hidden when the finishing stitch is sewn.

markingthe pattern
Poke a hole in the pattern using an awl or some-
thing sharp where the pattern is marked with a
small dot or letter to be able to use a marking pen
to accurately mark the fabric below.
note:
make a small notch in the paper to indicate where
it should also be marked on the fabric so you don’t
miss it and have to come back later and mark it. If you want to make your pat-
tern pieces more durable, you
can print them on cardstock or
glue the printed pieces to other
heavyweight materials and then
cut out.

If you want to make a larger or smaller 1
version of the softie you can scale it 2
using your printer. To enlarge the pat-
tern click on “poster” and the percent- 3
age you want to enlarge it in the “Tile
Scale” box. Select the options “Cut
Marks” and “Labels”. “Cut Marks” add
little lines in the corner to show where
you should cut to more easily line up
the pieces back together since they 4
won’t be on the individual patter piec-
es. “Labels” will add a little label in the
corner of each page to number each
poster piece to better know which go Reducing
together. Both those options are very
handy. Click “Print”.
