AIS BASE STATION TRANSCEIVER

mod. ABT-1103/N
According to IMO recommendations, the AIS system is employed by Authorities to improve monitoring of maritime traffic
and VTS (Vessel Traffic Services) operations. This technology, based on the use of GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite
System) receivers, enables transmission of position information in an automated, safe, and accurate fashion. Moreover,
the AIS integrates position information with static and dynamic data enabling full identification of vessels.

The ABT-1103/N has been designed to implement an independent AIS base station according to the relevant international
regulations (ITU-R
M.1371 and IEC
62320-1).

The ABT-1103/N can

be easily integrated
in a regional
monitoring system according to the IALA Recommendation A-124. The exchange of data between the base station and
the monitoring system is carried out through the embedded Presentation Interface (PI) ports (TCP/IP over Ethernet,
RS232 and RS422). The PI interfaces comply with IEC 61162-1 protocol and data format and also support the TAG /
Comment Block extensions, as defined in NMEA 0183 and IEC 62320-1 standards, which allow tagging every data
sentence with the station unique identifier and timestamp.

The ABT-1103/N can forward data to each port (serial and/or TCP) applying configurable filters on the AIS data, including
down-sampling, type of ITU message ID, area, MMSI, ship-type and repeat indicator filters. Received AIS targets can be
displayed on the embedded WUI or exported using the included KML Service. Optionally, the The ABT-1103/N can include
a memory card (up to 32 GB) which provides persistent local AIS data storage, thus avoiding loss of data when the link to
a data centre is temporarily broken. Offline stored data will be automatically sent to the control centre when the
communication link is restored.

The ABT-1103/N features an embedded web server which allows accessing the device through a Web User Interface
(WUI), removing the need of additional software. Authorized operators can log-in the web interface to configure and
monitor every aspect of the ABT-1103/N, its ports and connections and the linked devices and users. The operating mode
of the transceiver can also be configured through the PI ports by means of dedicated management software.

The ABT-1103/N includes an internal multi-constellation GNSS receiver, used to acquire position and time information;
this information can be forwarded in order to synchronize other units. Alternatively, the ABT-1103/N can accept time and
position information from external devices. Furthermore, the ABT-1103/N accepts DGNSS corrections from any port in
RTCM format.
Corrections can be
forwarded to the
internal GPS and/or
transmitted to remote
stations.

The ABT-1103/N features a dedicated module for status monitoring and detection of alarms generated from internal
circuitry, including RF power, external and internal voltages and internal temperature measurements. Alarm and status
information can be displayed and managed using WEB interface. Moreover the featured SNMP agent allows for remote
centralized monitoring.
The ABT-1103/N can be configured to output additional messages providing channel status information (Frame Summary
Report, FSR) useful to monitor the load on AIS channels and the possible presence of interfering signals at receiving site.
Moreover, The ABT-1103/N can be
configured to output VHF data link (VDL)
signal information (VSI) for each received
and/or transmitted message. The VSI data
include the received signal strength (RSSI),
the TDMA slot and a precise time of arrival
(ToA) with accuracy of tens of microseconds
and allow validating the dynamic content of
the received AIS message and detecting
possible spoofing.

The ABT-1103/N can also be equipped, upon

request, with additional functionalities that
can be adapted, and specifically developed
to the customer’s needs. The Secure mode
functions, for example, can be used to stop the standard broadcasting of AIS messages and/or enable encrypted
communications with selected AIS stations (e.g. WAIS equipped vessels). A third receiver is included to support DSC
(Digital Selective Calling) reception or to allocate a dedicated receiving process on a configurable frequency for secure
communications.
