Kindergarten Storytelling with Tech

This lesson plan teaches kindergarten students how to tell stories using a combination of drawing, dictating, and presenting with Microsoft PowerPoint. Students will work in pairs or small groups to create a story with illustrations. They will then upload their pictures into a PowerPoint presentation to share their stories with the class. The teacher will model storytelling and presentation skills to engage the students. This lesson allows students to be creative while learning how to express themselves and tell stories using technology.

Bloom’s Taxonomy Level(s):

☒ Remembering ☒ Understanding ☒ Applying ☐ Analyzing ☐ Evaluating ☒ Creating

Levels of Technology Integration:

☐ Infusion Level: Students may work at a higher Bloom’s Level, but they do not have any “Voice or Choice”
during the activity and most of the decisions are made by the teacher.

☒ Integration Level: We would like to see ALL lessons/activities reach this level. The project is student-
driven. Students have “Voice and Choice” in the activities, selecting the topic of study and determining the
technology tool to demonstrate mastery of the standard. All products of learning are unique and
personalized. The teacher becomes more of a facilitator walking around monitoring the student-led
activity.
☐ Expansion Level: The projects created are shared outside of the classroom, publishing student work and
promoting authorship. This could be reached by showcasing the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, or publishing via an outside source.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

 I will support the leaners in my classroom but allowing students to work together individually, in pairs
or groups of 3.
 Students will have the ability to be creative and use their expression through story telling and
illustrations. The teacher will model a story and explain to the class about how we will create a
presentation using technology.

Lesson idea implementation:

 I will introduce the subject of storytelling and the ways we can do this. To get the students engaged, I
will share a PowerPoint (PP) presentation of a story that was created. I will show them how we can
create a presentation with their pictures that they drew.
 Students will work in pairs or groups of 3 to create a story with pictures. Students will draw a picture
and describe each one, creating a story. After they have finished their stories and the pictures we will
work on uploading them into a PP presentation. Students will be able to display their physical stories
in the classroom. As for their presentations, we will have a show and tell day where they students will
be able to share their stories to show what that learned about how to tell a story.
Reflective Practice: I think that this can be a very engaging lesson for the students. Most children love
having ways to express themselves and be creative. This is a great way to teach kindergarten student how

to tell a story. I could extend this lesson into the upper grade levels by teaching how to build/create a story
or to write an essay and then present it using PowerPoint.
