I. PLANNING
Lesson .
summary and In this History lesson, we will be reading from My America and My World by Abeka, pages 23-25. The focus

was a soldier during a time of war. There’s also the story about him cutting down his father’s cherry tree and
admitting to it since he said he couldn’t tell a lie. Honesty is an important characteristic we will be talking
about. We will review his childhood and when he grew up to be a man. We will then watch a video

Classroom This is a self-contained classroom with students with IEPs. There are 8 boys in the classroom ranging from 1 st
and student grade to 6th grade. As the teacher, I would sit up front on the rug with students. When the video comes on, I

Grouping: The self-contained students can sit together with TAs assisting so that all students are tracking with story,
video, and worksheet. During the worksheet students will go back to their seats with the older students at the
back table. Those students that need more one-on-one help will have more assistance with tracing words on
worksheet and or responding to questions.

II. INSTRUCTION
A. Opening
Prior knowledge connection: This lesson connects to the students’ prior knowledge of recognizing
History lesson stories. Also, we will focus on honesty and discuss how
telling the truth is important to God, especially since we also find this in
our commandments.
Anticipatory set: This lesson is meaningful because as followers of Jesus, we have an
obligation to tell the truth and also honor our former country leaders like
the first president of the United States.
