Word Processing Exercise 1
OBJECTIVES: At the end of the exercise, the students should be able to:
• improve their skills in applying page, character, and paragraph formats;
• apply different column formats to sets of paragraphs; and
• insert images and the line object
NOTE: This word processing exercise should only be done using Google Docs on your WEB
BROWSER. It is not advised to use the app version of google docs as it is lacking in terms of features
and functionalities. Also, doing the said exercise in other word processor other than the one prescribed will
produce difficulty in completing the exercise as well as producing an incorrect output.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Click the blank Google Docs template file attached in the Schoology submission link. In the
submission link, you will be asked to sign-in using your GBOX account. Please take note that
you SHOULD sign in using your GBOX account.
2. If you are a STUDENT USING A SMARTPHONE or TABLET ion doing this word processing
exercise, follow the instruction below. Otherwise, proceed to instruction number 3:
Upon opening the blank Google Docs template file, you will be redirected to your browser. Click
the 3 dots found on the right side of your mobile web browser. A drop-down menu will appear.
From that drop-down menu, enable/click the option Desktop Site to set up the correct interface of
Google Docs for your word processing exercise.
3. The blank Google Docs file will have the default file name WP_surname1. Edit and rename the
said file name by changing the surname1 with your own surname. To do this, click on the file name
found on the upper left part of the Google Docs interface.
Example: WP_imperial1
4. Apply the following page set-up specifications using the File menu and clicking Page Setup:
• top and bottom margins: 0.2 inches
• left and right margins: 0.5 inches
• paper size: Letter (8.5” x 11”)
• orientation: Portrait
5. Download and open the text file named Paragraph_Data.txt that can be found in the folder which
also contains the submission link for this word processing exercise. Copy all the content of the
said file and paste it on your work (the Google Docs file that you are working on). Make sure to
set the font of the pasted text to ARIAL, text alignment to JUSTIFIED, and font size to 11 before
proceeding with instruction number 6. Remove all the (P1) to (P12) found on the first part of each
paragraph as they are just labels that you will use as reference during your paragraph formatting.
6. Apply the following formatting style on each paragraph labelled from P1 to P12:
• P1: Font = Arial, Font Size = 44, Font Color = Red, Typeface = BOLD, Text Alignment =
Center Align
• P2: Font = Tahoma, Font Size = 18, Font Color = Orange, Typeface = BOLD, Text
Alignment = Center Align
• P3: Font = Arial, Font Size = 11, Text Alignment = Justified, Drop Caps = (follow
instructions below)
- Drop Caps are large capital letters used as a decorative element at the
beginning of a paragraph.
- Instruction on Creating a DROP CAPS:
a. In your Google Docs file, place your cursor at the beginning of the
paragraph. Delete the 1st letter of the paragraph. Remember that
letter because you will be typing it in a few moment.

b. On the menu bar found on the topmost portion of the Google Docs
interface, go to Insert -> Drawing -> New.
c. Click on Actions -> Word Art.
d. Type the letter you need for the Drop Caps into the box that
appears and press the Return/Enter key.
e. To have your Drop Caps have the same formatting as the rest of
the paragraph, select the appropriate formatting parameters such
as Font, Fill Color, etc. to match the formatting of the paragraph
where your drop caps will belong.
f. After making all the necessary formatting on the Drop Caps, click
the Save and Close button for it to be inserted onto your
paragraph.
g. Position your Drop Caps at the beginning of the paragraph the
click the Drop Caps letter. A menu will pop-up just below the Drop
Caps. Select the option Wrap Text under Text Wrapping and
select 1/16” margin under Drawing Margin. Make sure that under
Position Options, the Move with Text option is selected.
h. Adjust the size of the Drop Caps with its height the same as 3 lines
of statement in the paragraph by dragging the anchor/resizing
points found around the Drop Caps when clicked. For future
reference, the statements above would look like this under future
Drop Caps specifications that will appear below:
• P4: Font = Times New Roman, Font Size = 10, Font Color = black, Typeface = Italic,
Text Alignment = Justified
• P5 to P7: Font = Times New Roman, Font Size = 11, Font Color = black, Typeface =
NONE, Text Alignment = Justified
• P8: Font = Arial Black, Font Size = 18, Font Color = dark orange 3, Typeface = bold,
Text Alignment = Left Align
• P9: Font = Arial, Font Size = 12, Font Color = Blue, Typeface = bold, Text Alignment =
Left Align
• P10: Font = Arial, Font Size = 12, Font Color = Blue, Typeface = bold, Text Alignment =
Left Align
• P11 to P12: Font = Arial, Font Size = 11, Font Color = Black, Typeface = NONE, Text
Alignment = Justified,
Drop Caps (for P11 only): Text Wrapping = Wrap Text, Drawing Margin = 1/16” margin,
Height = 3 lines
NOTE: For FONTS that cannot be found in the selection/options, click More Fonts and
type the name of the font on the textbox for you to be able to use it.
o Number of Columns = 2
o Spacing (inches) = 0.20
o Line between columns = (this should be checked)

Click the APPLY button to complete the multi-column formatting. Readjust your Drop Cap’s
position if necessary.
• Select and highlight paragraphs P5 to P7. Follow the same procedure of getting to the
Column Options po-up menu then set the following parameters below:
o Number of Columns = 3
o Spacing (inches) = 0.20
o Line between columns = (UNCHECKED)
Click the APPLY button to complete the multi-column formatting. Remove the extra line of
space above P5.
• Select and highlight paragraphs P11 to P12. Implement the column formatting below:
o Number of Columns = 2
o Spacing (inches) = 0.31
o Line between columns = (UNCHECKED)
Click the APPLY button to complete the multi-column formatting. Readjust your Drop Cap’s
position if necessary. Remove the extra line of space above P11.
8. Insert Images:
Download the following images in the Schoology folder where the submission link for word
processing 1 is located. These are the following images:
• christensen-arms-logo
• deerImage
To insert an image, on the menu bar, click Insert -> Image -> Upload from computer. Locate the
image need and click Open.
• Place your cursor on the line of space above P4. Insert the image named christensen-
arms-logo before P4. Click the image and set the text wrapping to In line. This option can
be found below the image if it is selected or clicked. Adjust the size of the image if
necessary.
• Place your cursor at the beginning of P6. Insert the image named deerImage. Position it
in between the 1st and 2nd column of the 3-column paragraph format that you made on P5
to P7. You may check the sample output of this exercise for guidance.
• To insert a header, go to the menu bar and click Insert -> Headers & Footers -> Headers.
• Type the following text inside the header in 2 lines:
o Change the <Your Name> portion of the second line of text with your own name.
o Perform the following text formatting on the first line of the text above:
▪ Font = Times New Roman, Font Size = 24, Font Color = Red, Typeface
= NONE, Text Alignment = Left Aligned
o Perform the following text formatting on the second line of the text above:
▪ Font = Times New Roman, Font Size = 14, Font Color = Red, Typeface
= NONE, Text Alignment = Right Aligned
o Insert a line object in between the two lines of the text inside the header. Make
sure that in the Text Wrapping, you select In line.
• To insert a footer, got to the menu bar and click Insert -> Headers & Footers -> Footers.
• Type the following text with its corresponding Tab Key presses:

o Perform the following text formatting on the text inside the footer:
▪ Font = Arial, Font Size = 10, Font Color = Black, Typeface = Bold, Text
Alignment = Center
11. Make sure that all content fit on one page only. Adjust page margins and paragraph spacing if
necessary. Do not modify the specified font and paragraph formats when doing this step.
12. Double-check and finalized your work. Once finalized, close the Google Docs tab in your browser
and go back to the submission link of Word Processing Exercise 1 in Schoology. Click the
submission link. There is no need for you to save your work in the Google Docs file that you have
worked on since it automatically saves itself so long as you are connected over the internet. Click
the specified submission link. Inside the submission link, click the Submit Assignment button to
officially submit your output for word processing exercise 1.
