INTRODUCTION…
Begusarai is the Thirty districts of Indian state
of Bihar. The districts lies on the northen bank
of river GANGA. It is located at 25.42 degree
north. It has an average elevation of 41 metres .
It lies in north Bihar and is surrounded by
khagria in North-East,Patna in west and
Samastipur in North-west.
It was established in 1870.
The name Begusarai originates from the words
‘Begum sarai’ meaning ‘queen’s in’. The place
was so called because the Begum of Bhagalpur
used to visit "Simaria Ghat"- A holy place on
the northern banks of river Ganga , for
pilgrimage. The rivers flowing through Begusarai
district are Ganga, Burhi Gandak, Balan, Bainty,
Baya and Chandrabhaga.

HISTORICAL
BACKGROUND
 Begusarai was a sub-division of the
erstwhile Munger district from 1870 to
1972.
 Begusarai was called ‘Anguttarapa’ in
Buddhist literature Majjhim Nikaya.
 There is evidence of continued habitation in
Begusarai since the Mauryan period
 Jaimangalgarh was an important Buddhist
center.
 Jaimangalgarh and Naulagarh in
Begusarai was an important centre of
administration , art and culture during the
Mauryan and Pala period.
ADMINISTRATIVE GROUND
 Begusarai town is a municipal corporation
town and district headquarters of Begusarai
district.
 Begusarai district comprises of 5 sub-
divisions, namely Begusarai,Manjhaul,
Ballia, Bakhari and Teghra which is divided
into 18 municipal blocks.
 Total no. of Panchayats in Begusarai district:
257
 Total no. of villages in Begusarai district:

MAJOR INDUSTRIAL AREA :
 Industrial area at Barauni.
 Areas acquired – 8.59 hectares.
 No. of plots – 46.
 No. of units in production – 27.
HERITAGE AND
TOURISM
 Museum: Displayed here are stone
sculptures of Vishnu, Ganesh, Sun, Buddha,
Nandi, etc. from the Pala period, thousands
of coins from Mauryan to British period,
potteries of different cultural strata,
terracotta, manuscripts etc.
 Simaria village situated in the south-east
part of Begusarai district is famous as
the birth place of India's national poet
Ramdhari Singh Dinkar. Kartika Mela
held at Simaria Ghat situated on the
northern flank of river Ganga has been
recognized as state fair of Bihar.
 There are many temples worth visiting such as
Kalisthan, Karpuristhan, Ram Janki mandir,
Nawlakha temple, Ankurinath temple etc.

MUSEUM ….
FESTIVALS
 Chhath, also called “DALA CHHATH”,Surya
vrat
 It is an ancient and major Vedic festival
celebrated in Bihar. It is celebrated twice a
year: once in the summers,called the chati
chhath , and once around a week after
DEEPAWALI , called Karthik CHHATH.
 MAKAR SANKRANTI is the harvest festival
of Bihar.
 Many other festivals are Teej, Ram navmi ,
Jivit putrika, KARTIK PURNIMA.
CUISINE
 LITTI CHOKHA can be considered as
national and famous food of Bihar.
 THEKUA, KAJURI,TIKRI is one of the
most famous Bihari sweet snack.
 POPULAR FRUIT: LITCHI ,
MANGO,GUAVA.
 Rasiya, a special type of kheer or payasam
for chhath puja.
 Dahi chura and jaggery special for Makar
sankranti
TRADITIONAL DRESS
 The traditional dress of Bihari people consists
of dhoti-kurta for men and saree for women.
 Western shirts and trousers are becoming
popular among the both rural and urban male
population and salwar kameez for women in
urban Bihar.
INFRASTRUCTURE
 There is one industrial area.
