YOUNG GENERATION OF INDONESIA IN CONDITION OF THE MORAL CRISIS
By: Adjie Sumantri
We must realize that now the country of Indonesia is under the pressure of globalization,
especially the flow of information and technology. Where it can give two different impacts, the
adverse effects of shifting Indonesian values and norms, unfavorable foreign cultural values and
norms will result in our young generation having weak character and morals. Lately, we have
been troubled by LGBT cases that have begun to enter Indonesia and voice human rights
equality. Even though this is very deviant from the noble values and norms of the nation. These
things can occur due to the reduced morality of the nation where our country does not uphold the
values and norms that exist.
Moral crisis is engulfing this country; the crisis is in the form of rampant violence against
children, increased promiscuity, a crime against friends, pornography, loss of honesty, and other
social problems that until now have not been resolved completely. The moral crisis resulted from
a lack of awareness of the Indonesian customary, religious and social norms and coupled with
the pressure of globalization that is not by the nation's noble values.
The younger generation is an asset that will determine the condition of this country, the
progress or retreat of a country depends on the young generation it has. Do we still want to
survive in the deterioration of morals and character? If we allow the character of the nation to
become weak and continue to carry the flow of globalization, it is not impossible that this
country will become worse and worse.
Let's Make a Moral Indonesia
According to Lickona in Haryanto (2012), moral/character is related to the concept of
morality (moral knonwing), moral attitude (moral felling), and moral behavior (moral behavior).
These three things can mean that good morality to supported by knowledge of goodness, the
desire to do good and do good deeds. To deal with the moral crisis that is engulfing this country,
there are several efforts that we can do, including:
1. Embed the nation's noble values and norms
Pancasilla is the basic philosophy of the Indonesian state. Pancasilla consists of five related and
inseparable bases, in each silla has the values contained therein. For that we must apply the
content of the values of pancasilla and practice it in everyday life.
2. Character education
Character education in Indonesia has been implemented for a long time. Various efforts have
been taken by the Educational Institution to apply character education. Character education aims
to create intelligence, and character building and the cultivation of moral values, to create a good
moral personality.
3. Give examples of examples to others
We as young people must play an active role in realizing a moral Indonesia by providing good
examples of others. By diligently studying, being honest, being obedient to parental orders, and
always doing good with friends.
4. Inviting others to develop good character/morals
The fourth effort can well done through the small activities we do and its nature invites to
develop good character and morals, such as social service activities, environmental care
movements, socialization about the importance of good moral / character and other activities.
We as the nation's next generation must be aware of the importance of good character/morality,
have the morals that we have by the noble values of the nation? That question is only the young
generation who can answer it. The young generation must play an active role in realizing a moral
Indonesia, and continue the mandate of the noble ideals of the Indonesian people, that is, protect
the entire Indonesian nation and the whole blood of Indonesia and to promote public welfare,
educate the lives of the nation, and participate in carrying out world order based on
independence. Eternal peace and social justice.
"No ivory is not cracked. There are not many words we can voice, except the real actions we do
for this nation and country. "
