 How can humanity deal with Earth’s overpopulation?
Nowadays, the population of the world has exploded. At the time of writing there are
seven billion people on the planet and this number is projected to grow in a short period of
time. The above has caused the overpopulation in the world. Overpopulation refers to a
population which exceeds its sustainable size within a particular environment or habitat. The
causes of overpopulation are result from an increased birth rate, decreased death rate, the
immigration to a new ecological niche with fewer predators, or the sudden decline in available
resources. According to George Morris, overpopulation is defined as the state of the
population “When there are more people than can live on the earth in comfort, happiness, and
health and still leave the world a fit place for future generations.” From all of the environmental
challenges facing the planet today overpopulation is one that sometimes slips under the radar.
Issues like pollution, climate change and water shortages all seem to take precedence, but
overpopulation is one of the main contributors to many other environmental issues. However,
there are some ways that humans can do to handle the problem of overpopulation.

Based on population statistics that increase dramatically over time, the way to prevent
this from happening continuously is relevant parties need to make the public aware of family
planning. The definition family planning is a method of helping a family to control the number
of children needed, the time interval to have the next child and stop the opportunity to have a
child with certain methods. Therefore, it is very important to every family, especially those who
have just formed a household, need to be aware of family planning methods and in fact the
young generation also needs to be given early awareness to guide them to become
responsible adults and their preparation to build a household. For example, one of the best
ways is to let them know about various safe sex techniques and contraceptive methods
available to avoid any unwanted pregnancy. Referring to the above, of course the problem of
overpopulation can be overcome effectively.

besides, another way to deal with this problem is sex education should be given to
young children at the primary school level so that they have the knowledge and awareness of
such education. Such education cannot be implemented by the parents themselves at home.
This is because parents think that their children are not suitable to receive such education
because they are not old enough and also parents feel ashamed in discussing such things
with their kids that results in their children going out and look out for such information on the
internet. Therefore, children at an early stage should get sex education in the right way. But,
unfortunately not because they are influenced by incorrect and indecent information on the
internet. In this case, incomplete information, which results in sexually active teenagers
unaware of the method of using contraceptives and embarrassed to seek information about
the same. It is, therefore, important for parents and teachers to shed their old inhibitions and
make their kids or students aware of solid sex education.

Next, the government needs to implement birth regulation to drastically control

population growth. If people will not become responsible enough to reduce the number of
children in a family, the government will be forced and entitled to intervene and set strict
regulations on the number of children allowed. This is said so because every citizen despite a
different standard of living such as rich or poor people still have to comply with the rules and
laws set by the government. For example, there are citizens who violate the birth regulation
provided by giving birth to more than the specified amount, a person will be fined accordingly.
Such regulations have been implemented in China that is every family would not be allowed
to have more than two babies. However, it is a very unpopular unworkable idea as China’s
birth control laws have shown. But, actually this method has had a profound effect on
controlling population growth. Therefore, the government should be responsible by playing a
role in addressing this problem.

Subsequently, the government also needs to play a role by ensuring that every citizen
obtains adequate education in their respective countries. This is because education is the key
in this context to mitigate the problems of overpopulation. as we can see in the current situation,
poor people are more likely to have more children than rich people. this is due to the fact that
it is no stranger that poor people do not have a pension scheme for subsistence and thus
depend on their children to provide and care for them when they are old. Referring to the
above, the poor people think that there are more children and when they are working, their life
after old age will be guaranteed. So, education is important to ensure that the people get better
job opportunities and higher salaries for the sake of guaranteed survival. Indirectly, education
can help people to get out of poverty as well as can contribute to a reduction in population
growth.

Additionally, marriage regulation should be introduced by setting the appropriate age

for a married couple. As we can see today, most couples who are still in adolescence and
under the care of parents have married early so that this is just normal in society. This is
because couples who marry early in adolescence are more likely to give birth to more children
because they do not have the initial preparation and adequate family planning education to
build a family and become mother and father. If early marriage cases are not addressed as
soon as possible, the problem of overpopulation will become increasingly critical and will
cause other issues such as pollution. Therefore, the rules of marriage should be implemented
to prevent the couple from getting married early and if there are couples who are determined
to get married early should be given appropriate counseling to gain awareness.
 In conclusion, the problem of overpopulation is a crisis that brings a tremendous
challenge to humanity today. However, in fact many people still do not realize that this problem
is happening around them all days. Since people are unaware of the population explosion and
the environmental, social, and economic problems that result or increase, they will end up
living in famine, pollution, unemployment, and poverty. So, every society needs to be aware
of the overpopulation and will causing them to be more careful and take appropriate steps by
working together to change the factors that caused the excess population before. Thus, the
above can certainly stop the critical population growth to determine the future of the next
generation to obtain a higher standard of living and a more orderly and advanced life.
