-Review Hot Cross Buns
● Teacher groups students into groups of three. Each student gets a different instrument. One plays
a triangle, one plays sticks, and the other plays a drum. The teacher explains that each instrument
makes a different sound, either high, low, or somewhere in between.
● Teacher sings hot cross buns and explains that each student is responsible for a note throughout
the song. For example, the triangle player plays along with all the B’s, the sticks player plays
along with all the A’s, and the drum player plays along with all the G’s
● Teacher sings once through with students then allows them to sing once on their own
● Students add their instrument while continuing to sing. After each round, students switch
instruments so that everyone has a turn with everything

● Teacher distributes a bag of glass stone and staff sheets for students to work with
● Students work to complete the activity
● Students compare with another group
● Teacher calls everyone back together and completes the activity on the board, showing how the
melody goes up and down in the song
Closing (5 mins)
Melody Imitation
● Each student gets a glockenspiel
● Teacher plays a melody and students attempt to imitate it
● Teacher makes the melody progressively more complex, starting with a melody that stays the
same, and then melodies that move up and down
