3 Target Mean Strength of Concrete for Mix Proportioning (fck') : (IS 10262:2019, Clause No. 4.2)
fck' = fck + 1.65 x S
Considering,
Standard fck' = 35 + 1.65 x 5
Deviation:
fck' = 43.25 N/mm2
Considering, fck' = fck + X
Factor based on
fck' = 35 + 6.50
grade of concrete,
Table 1 : fck' = 41.50 N/mm2
idering higher value from above calculations (fck') = 43.25 N/mm2
4 Selection of Water - Cement (or, Cementitious) Ratio, W/C : (IS 10262:2019, Clause No. 5.1)
r-Cement Ratio for Durability Requirement : 0.425 As per fig. 1 of IS 10262:2019
ater-Cement Ratio for Target Mean Strength : 0.45 As per IS 456: 2000, Table 5
dopt Lower Water-Cement Ratio from above : 0.425
Here, we are taking : 0.41 (Based on trials done)
Check: Here w/c ratio : 0.41 < 0.425 HENCE O.K.
4 Estimation of Air Content : (IS 10262:2019, Clause No. 5.2)
Nominal Maximum Size of Aggregate (MSA) : 20 mm As per fig. 1 of IS 10262:2019
d Air, as percentage of volume of concrete : 1.00 % As per IS 10262: 2019, Table 3
5 Selection & Adujstment of Water content & Admixture content : (IS 10262:2019, Clause No. 5.3)
Maximum Water Content for Nominal MSA 20mm : 186 kg (for 50mm slump) As per IS 10262:2019, Table 4
Adjustments for Workability Requirement : 16.74 kg (for 125mm slump) As per IS 10262:2019, Clause No. 5.3
(Total 9% water increased for slump requirement of
100-125mm)
Hence, Total Water Content : 202.74 kg
As water reducing Admixture is used, water content can be reduced up to 30 %.
Hence, arrived water content : 167 kg (Here 17.50% water reduction is done.)
% by weight of total Cementitious
Admixture : 1.2
(Cement + mineral admixture, if any)
6 Cementitious Content : (IS 10262:2019, Clause No. 5.4)
Total Cementitious Content : 410 kg (Based on several trials)
M35 RCC CONCRETE MIX DESIGN
Cement Content : 340 kg
Fly Ash : 70 kg
Check: The selected cementitious content is more than the specified minimum cementitious content & cement content is less than
maximum cement content given in above design stipulation.

7 Selection & Adjustments of Coarse Aggregate : (IS 10262:2019, Clause No. 5.5 & Table 5)
Volume of CA for volume of Total Aggregate : 0.62 (for 20mm agg. & zone 2 sand, W/C - 0.5)
Adjustment for change in shape of aggregate : 0.00
justment for change in zone of fine aggregate : 0.00
For Water-Cement Ratio = 0.40 : 0.64 (volume of CA is increase rate of +/- 0.01 for every +/- 0.05
change in W/C Ratio)
For Pumpable Cocrete : 0.576 (Aggregate volume decreased 10% for pumpable concrete)
CA of total aggregate by absolute volume : 57.6 %
ere, we are adopting CA of total aggregate : 59.0 % (Based on several trials done)
Hence, volume of FA of total aggregate : 41.0 %
8 Combination of Different Coarse Aggregate Fractions & Estimation of Fine AggregateAs per IS 10262:2019, Clause No. 5.6
Required 20mm aggregate content of total : 60 %
Required 10mm aggregate content of total : 40 %
11 The Mix Proportion for 1m3 volume of concrete :
Vol.of Cement : 0.108 m3
Vol.of mineral admixture : 0.031 m3
Vol. of Water : 0.167 m3
Vol. of admixture : 0.000 m3
Volume A (vol. of cement + fly ash + water + admixture) : 0.306 m3
Therefore,
Vol.of All In Aggregate (1-A) : 0.694 m3
Vol. of Coarse Aggregate : 0.409 m3
Vol. of Fine Aggregate : 0.284 m3
Therefore,
20.0 mm Aggregate : 665.5 kg
10.0 mm Aggregate : 443.7 kg
Fine Aggregate : 748.0 kg
Final Proportion (For material in S.S.D. condition) - For 1m3 Concrete : -
Cement : 340 kg CA = 59.0 % vol. of total vol. Aggregate
Fly Ash : 70 kg FA = 41.0 % vol. of total vol. Aggregate
Water : 167 kg W/C Ratio = 0.41
Admixture : 0 kg Admixture = 1.20 % by weight of cementitious m
20mm Agg : 665.5 kg 20 mm = 60.0 % vol. of total vol. of CA
Page 5 of 7
M35 RCC CONCRETE MIX DESIGN
10mm Agg : 443.7 kg 10 mm = 40.0 % vol. of total vol. of CA
Fine Aggregate : 748.0 kg
Total : 2434.4 kg/m3

11 Corrections for Water Absorption & Free Surface Moisture :
Refer attached Trial Mix Report.
Notes:
1 The mix design is based on the samples of the material & the materials were tested as per relevant Indian Standard.
2 Admiture Dosage can be adjust at site as per requirement for workability, depends upon the site environment conditions. But it
should not be more than 2.00% in any case.
3 Coarse Aggregate & Fine Aggregate ratio can be adjusted according to its actual grading at the time of mix production, subjected to
confirming the requirements of Table 7 & Table 10, IS 383:2016.
