Mary is a college student who is taking a degree in Hospitality Management. For the upcoming
summer, she is scheduled to start her internship as a server in a hotel for three (3) months.
Expecting to be an event planner in the future, Mary has a strong feeling that what she will be doing
on her internship seems to be irrelevant to her career objective. She dislikes being a server because
of the long working hours, low pay, and heavy physical workloads involved in the position.

2. Discuss with your partner and comment about Mary’s internship by answering the following
questions:

a. Based on your dining experiences in restaurants or hotels, do you think the workload of being
a server is heavy? How much do you expect a full-time server should earn monthly? For how
many hours should a server work per day?

Yes, since being a server means working all day long, it is a physical activity, you won’t just sit
but you needed to serve also need to have a bright aura even you already feel tired. You still always need to

should work 9 hours with 1 hour break per day.

Why?

Of course, I will still pursue my career in hospitality management since this is the road I decided to

take, it is my passion. Whatever the circumstance might it take you will still pursue what you like if you really
love your aligned job/career, you call do all the challenges at work and it's because of passion. Because that
is where you will excel, that is where you should be that is what you want.
