Course Description Human resource (HR) management is designing management systems to ensure that human talent is used
effectively and efficiently to accomplish organizational goals. If human resources are to be an important part of
successfully competing in the marketplace, a different level of thinking about HR management is necessary.
Productive, creative people working in flexible, effective organizations that provide rewarding work for individuals
is important for all managers, not just those in HR departments. People in organizations can be a core
competency.

This course explains as an organization core competency, human resources has a unique capability that creates
high value and differentiates an organization from competitors in areas such as productivity, quality/service,
employee skills, and innovative changes. Therefore, at the end of the course students will be able to understand
and explain HR management activities, such as strategic HR management; equal employment opportunity;
staffing; talent management; compensation and benefits; health, safety, and security; and employee and labor
relations.

Assessment It is mandatory for students to fulfill these assessments in order to pass the class:

Attendance Students must fulfill the minimum requirement of attendance, which is 80% from the 16-week scheduled class
sessions.
Class Participation Students are advised to be active in class, i.e. discussion, Q & A, teamwork, debate, and/or any other class
activities
Teamwork Students will work together in teams.
Individual Assignments Students are also responsible for their individual assignment(s) which will be given by the lecturer(s). Individual
assignments may take in the form of writing essays, chapter summary, case analysis, and/or other form of tasks.
Quiz Quizzes will be given throughout the semester. Therefore, students must be prepared and always read the course
materials that has been given and pay close attention to class discussions.
Mid-Term Exam Mid-Term Exam will be given in week 8 of the semester. The purpose of the exam is to review students’
comprehension of the course materials.
Final Exam Final Exam will be given in week 16 of the semester. The purpose of the exam is to review students’
comprehension of the course materials.
