2020 Ensemble Program Audition: Double Bass

These excerpts are compulsory IF applying for the Melbourne Youth Orchestra (flagship ensemble):

Excerpt 6: DEBUSSY La Mer, Mvt III. Dialogue du Vent et de la Mer

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
1. Orchestral Excerpts
Melbourne Youth Chamber Strings: Excerpts 1-4 only
Percy Grainger Youth Orchestra: Excerpts 1-4 only
Melbourne Youth Orchestra: Excerpts 1-6

NB: Applicants are expected to prepare ALL excerpts. All markings and instructions (e.g.
bowing, dynamics, tempi, etc.) are to be observed.

2. Own choice work


A concerto movement or other appropriate solo work that best demonstrates your technical
abilities and musicianship.
3. Sight-reading to the level of the ensemble (to be supplied in the audition).

GENERAL INFORMATION
• Your audition will be unaccompanied;
• Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your audition time;
• Your audition will last approximately 7 to 10 minutes;
• Due to time constraints, you may be asked to stop playing before you reach the end of your own
choice work;
• The panel may not want to hear all your excerpts;
• Any audition requirements not prepared will result in an incomplete assessment of the applicant’s
suitability for the ensemble.
