At the end of this Guided Learning Activity Sheet, you are expected to:

 Acquire a basic understanding of the visual and technical skills needed in


photography used as a medium of personal expression
 Apply the different composition skills to produce a printed photograph for a
simple photo essay

Have you ever emotionally moved by a picture? What about by a series of pictures? These
series of pictures are called photo essay.

Photo Essay- collection or series of pictures or images that are arranged in a specific order
to tell the progression of events, emotions, and concepts. The photos must work together to
convey the message, theme, and emotions of the essay. Each individual photo must
contribute to the overall story.

Steps in Making a Photo Essay

1. Think about a specific theme or topic you would like. Make sure that your chosen
topic is relevant or interesting to tell a story.

2. Choose your subject matter. Check if it is suitable or related to your chosen topic
or theme.

3. Plan your shoot. List down all the ideas for photo composition and choose the
best one that suited to your topic or theme. You can also create an outline of all
the things you need to consider in taking photographs.

4. Start shooting. Make sure you have a large variety of photos to choose from. In
taking photographs, you need to apply the different principles and elements of art
to come up with good pictures.

5. Choose all your best shots. Make sure that your pictures are connected visually
to each other.

6. Finally, add captions to each picture. Captions are brief explanations about your
photos.

Enrichment Activity 1

Take a picture of anything that is interesting to you. You can choose from your photo collection
on your mobile phone. Paste it on a separate short coupon bond. Write a short title.

Independent Activity 1

Share a photo that you took of a recent event or celebration that you attended. It can be a
birthday party, christmas event or a simple gathering of your family or friends. Paste it on a separate
short bond paper. Tell something about the photo and the way you took it.
