Production/process section Head
1. Responsibilities:

One of Bed-3 area production management team, my main responsibilities are to


ensure that oil and gas process facilities and company’s assets are operated in
optimum and safe conditions, support shift supervisors in troubleshooting and conduct
training to the junior engineers; support bed-3 area production manager in the
administrative affairs related to production department.

2. Accountabilities/Deliverables:

 Provide technical support to Bed-3 area production shift supervisors and


production engineers.
 Conduct training sessions to junior engineers and technicians.
 Represent production department when contacting vendors.
 Coordinate with planning department to prepare Bed area production budget.
1. Coordinate with production manager to determine production needs

CAMS Assessment/Coach/ On Job Trainer

1. Responsibilities:
One of CAMS management team, my main responsibilities is to assist in building of
competency assurance management system CAMS for PHPC (BP-EGPC JV, Egypt);
and assist in CAMS implementation phase by assessment, coaching and on job
training of safety, process and production competencies (onshore and off-shore).

2. Key Roles:

 Participate in Building Competency Architecture Draft for production and safety


disciplines and finalize it after review and approval by the client.
 Construct competency matrix for production department engineers and
technicians.
 Develop competency dictionary and job competency Profiles
 Participate in CAMS periodical workshops between OGS, PHPC and BP
representatives.
 Produce training curriculums for in-house training as appropriate.
 Develop and deliver training for HSE, Processing Equipment and Operation
 Monitor individual progress against competency development and review it with
team leader and the project manager.
 Provide observations against performance on task assessment sheets.
 Continuously improve and revise/ carry out orientation & Training.
 Manage the on job training plan.
 Assist in completing the IDP.
 Provide monthly progress reports.

3. Achievements:

 Being the youngest engineer who joins the CAMS team.


 During my first month in the team, my contribution helped to increase the
project’s actual progress 3% against target.

OGS /Apache-Qarun, Egypt Part-time


Operational Excellence Auditor
1. Responsibilities:

One of OGS consultancy team, my main responsibilities is to perform auditing and


assessment to production operations, process safety and asset integrity in Qarun
facilities (Apache-EGPC JV, Egypt); and assist in operational excellence
implementation phase.

2. Key Roles:

 Participate in proposal preparations of the OE program, and customize best


practices to be applicable to Qarun operations.
 Perform site visits to Qarun assets and collect data for gap analysis.
 Establish meeting routines with front line and senior staff to assess compliance.
 Review and assess operational safety compliance:
 Shift handover.
 Operational registers.
 Competence tracking system.
 Management of change procedure (MoC)
 Operating Envelopes and operating conditions
 Permit to Work system (CSE, working at heights, excavation, radiation…..Etc)
 Review and assess process safety compliance:
 Identification of SCEs and Performance Standards and align with maintenance
strategies
 Execute performance assurance activities and manage deviations
 enable data to be exchanged with other systems, particularly for loading tasks
and routines into the CMMS
 Apply risk based methodologies for the development of inspection and
maintenance strategies

Bed area Production/ process Senior Supervisor

1. Responsibilities:
To ensure that on-spec hydrocarbon products are produced and delivered to the
custody transfer points as per agreed production plan whilst meeting HSE, asset
integrity and cost targets; process and wells data acquisitions carried out as per
Production Technologist advice.

2. Key Roles:

 Member of the BED3 Production Operations Leadership Team


 Deliver production plan of oil and gas wells and maintenance plan of (BED3,
BED2, NEAG) facilities
 Supervise the daily work of the contractor of operations and maintenance
services.
 Ensure the right data collection in terms of subsurface request.
 Take charge as the Deputy Emergency Controller/On Site Commander in case
of any emergency.

3. Accountabilities/Deliverables:

 Process Engineering duties:

 Participate in HAZOP, HAZID, SIL and safety reviews with contractors.


 Assist in resolution of field problems, issue field recommendations on unit
design and participates in implementing efficient corrections that reduce
operational problems.
 Propose and justify facility change proposals (FCPs) to equipment or to
operating procedures to improve safety/efficiency/reliability of equipment.
 Work with process design software tools (i.e. HYSYS, UNISIM, etc.) and
perform and optimize process simulation design.
 Prepare required inputs for PFDs, P&IDs & plot plan drafting and updating to
assure that the drafting requirements and design intent of process facilities are
met.
 Participate in preparing process operating manuals for new facilities.
 Use of operating envelopes to optimize facility’s units.

 Project Management duties:

 Supervise execution of construction and commissioning phases.


 Participate in planning and prioritization of brown field construction activities.
 Participate in planning for major shut downs.
 Participate in safety studies (HAZOP, HAZID, SIL, Bow-Ties, SIMOPS and
safety critical elements SCE identification) and safety reviews with contractors.

 Operations duties:

 Play the role of on scene commander (OSC) in case of emergencies.


 Coordinate facility and wells tie-in, commissioning and start-up.
 Operate wells and production facilities in accordance to specified operating
procedures, operating envelopes and design intent; where there is deviation,
ensure authorized approval and control measures are put in place.
 Monitor day to day production performance and take corrective action when
wells and/or facilities do not conform to target performance at stable conditions
e.g. minimize production back pressure, reduction in emissions and waste.
 Implement daily PTW/TRA/TOOL BOXING MEETING.
 Manage energy isolation to ‘SIRPS’ standards (Safe isolation and
reinstatement of plant).
 Execute and improved inspection and maintenance activities in accordance
with approved and recognized philosophies and practices to assure the asset’s
integrity and optimize cost.
 Carry out regular self-verification and assessment of the asset performance in
preparations for Operations Excellence (OE) review and initial/pursue
necessary Operations Integrity (OI) improvement actions e.g.
 Coordinate with planning department to implement maintenance and integrity
execution (MIE).
 Validate Energy Components (EC), is accurate and ready for approval by Field
Manager before Operations Morning Calls.
 Supervisory the accuracy of deferment coding and analysis.
 Production reporting (Field Ops/Production Daily Reports)
 Participate in well reservoir facility management (WRFM) activities
 Drive implementation of action items arising from audits and reviews.
 Deliver participation / leadership incident investigations when required leading
to determination of clear root causes.
 Motivate and develop staff competence through tasks and targets setting,
regular performance coaching and training to improve their performance.

4. Achievements:

 My contribution in supervising brown-field activities of AK CRP project in Bed-3


plant which helped in increasing safety awareness of contractors, this led to
complete the project without accidents.
 My contribution in production optimisation activities and facilities de-
bottlenecking workshops helped to increase the company production to the
highest production.
 Represent BAPETCo in the sustainable development of petroleum and
petrochemical industries international conference.

Shutdown engineer
3. Responsibilities:

Appointed as shutdown focal point for a major planned shutdown to execute 572 different
jobs; S/D scope included internal inspection of 27 pressure vessels and preventive
maintenance activities on vessels, services, and equipment in addition to welding and cutting
of process pipes of existing Bed-3 for AK Project Tie-in.

4. Accountabilities/Deliverables:

 Ensure that work is carried out in accordance with HSE policy and procedures.
 Ensure that all operational activities related to shutdown plan are prepared and
executed in a timely, efficient and effective manner with HSE as a highest
priority.
 Be Permit to Work Administrator for Bed area, performing relevant duties and
tasks of this role.
 Closely interface with Engineering and other department involved in shutdown
planning and execution.
 Review and agree marked P&IDs in accordance with the company standards.
 Contribute as Operations focal point to overall shutdown scheduling and scope
challenge/optimization and execution.
 Prepare and optimize in coordination with engineering operational shut down
plan (equipment isolation and purging, equipment and plant shut down/restart
procedures).
 Identify needs for Operation movables and equipment (N2 purging, water
flushing, leak testing, adaptor flanges…. Etc.) Needed for shut downs and
ensure availability.
 Contribute to production department’s manpower planning for shut down
period.
 Lead and instruct shifts during shut down on relevant activities.
 Write shut down close-out report from Operations perspective and extract
lessons learnt to promote continuous improvement.

5. Achievements:

 My contribution as the shutdown focal point in the largest planned shutdown in


Bed-3 area helped to complete the shutdown without accidents.

BAPETCO, SHELL-EGPC JV, Egypt Sep 2009 - May


2010
Production Engineer
1. Responsibilities:

The production shift engineer main role is to assist the shift supervisor to ensure that
on-spec hydrocarbon products are produced and delivered to the custody transfer
points as per agreed production plan whilst meeting HSE, asset integrity and cost
targets; and perform most of paper work required to execute routine production
department’s activities.

2. Accountabilities/Deliverables:

 Energy component (EC) data entry for daily report.


 Use SAP system to create PM notifications and work orders.
 Preparations of mechanical isolation (marked P&ID, TRA).
 Proactively monitor, review and analyse plant and equipment performance and
provide feedback to Line Management, identify opportunities to maximize
production and performance and share best practice.
 Ensure all chemical injection meet performance and contractual specifications
 Analyse and resolve production/process issues utilizing the appropriate
techniques.
 Encourage the reporting of all incidents, ensure that incidents are investigated
and action incident close-outs as appropriate
 Supervise safe start up and shut down of the processing plants.
 Production Well Testing – confirm well test procedures and instruction,
execution.
 Prepare production department PTW.
 Play the role of OSC in case of absence of the shift supervisor and assist the
shift supervisor in case of emergency.
 Prepare incident notification reports.
 Participate in technical reports.
 Assist the shift supervisor in production operations activities
 Attend planning YTT meeting.

3. Achievements:

 Establishment of BAPETCO graduated engineers’ community which aimed to


share knowledge between new hired engineers via holding a weekly technical
presentation.
 The first engineer that passes competency development scheme.

ROYAL CHEMICALS CO. , Egypt Apr 2008 - Sep 2009


Operation/ process Engineer
1. Responsibilities:

To operate fatty acid and glycerine processing complex in the operating envelope
relevant to different feeds, that requires controlling the operating parameters of
fatty acid atmospheric distillation unit, oil splitting unit, chemical purification unit,
concentration and glycerine vacuum distillation unit.

2. Accountabilities/Deliverables:

 Involved in start-up and safe shut down of fatty acid and glycerine complex.
 Monitor the plant operation and operate the plant within operation limits as
per procedures or official approved documents in the best possible technical,
economic, safety and environmental conditions.
 Monitor chemicals consumption process to withdraw required chemicals out
of warehouse.
 Arrange with tank farm supervisor to switch feed, recycle and products tanks.

3. Achievements:

 After only four months of joining Royal Chemicals Company, I was promoted
to play the role of complex shift leader that is the shortest time in the
company as it usually takes one year at least for a new hired engineer to
become a shift leader.

EAF, Egypt Oct 2005 - Apr 2008


Teams Coordinator

1. Responsibilities:

To coordinate with exploration contractors (WesternGeco, CGG) and EAF mine


clearance crews to perform seismic operation in the western desert.

2. Accountabilities/Deliverables:

 Leading of 500 personnel to perform mine clearance activities in the western


desert.
 Coordinate with exploration companies’ representatives to Schedule and
prioritize geophysical data acquisition activities.
 Provide supervisory to administrative affairs.
 Set-up meetings to discuss issues and keeping up communications.
 Manage logistics required for accommodation and move of EAF camp.

3. Achievements:

 My leadership and supervisory skill helped to execute five mine clearance


projects (south of Alameen, North of Alameen, Negela, Siwa and Zareef)
without accidents.
 Establishment of lean processes that helped to reduce camp move time
from 15 to 5 days.
