L&T-S&L Engineered India’s First Ultra-Supercritical Power Plant Achieves Commercial Operation
L&T-Sargent & Lundy (L&T-S&L) is honored to be the part of
India’s first 2x660 MW Ultra-Supercritical Thermal Power Plant
in the capacity of Design Engineering Consultant to carry out
Basic and Detail Engineering. The project achieved Full Load
Operation of the first unit in 52 months and 30 days from the
effective date of contract, setting a new benchmark in power
sector for greenfield projects. Larsen & Toubro (L&T) secured a
turnkey contract from NTPC for setting up the prestigious
project on EPC (engineering, procurement and construction)
basis, through international competitive bidding.

With steam parameters of 600 0C and 270 kg/cm2 pressure, these units have been designed to consume less
coal and produce the equivalent of power in comparison to supercritical plants; L&T-MHPS supplied the boilers
and steam turbine generators.

L&T-S&L’s scope of services included basic and detail engineering for overall integration of various power plant
equipment/packages. L&T-S&L also provided field engineering support during commissioning and performance
testing. This adds another feather to L&T-S&L’s track record of power packed performance in last 25 years.

L&T achieved Commercial Operation Date (COD) for the first 660 MW unit on February 1, 2020 while the
second unit achieved successful COD on April 4, 2020 for Khargone Super Thermal Power Project.
