Middle East Technical University Mechanical Engineering Department Me 304 Control Systems SPRING 2007

This document contains homework assignments for a control systems course. It includes two problems to solve related to electrical circuits and hydraulic systems. For problem 1, students are asked to write time domain and Laplace domain equations for the electrical circuit shown, and find the transfer function between the input and output voltages. For problem 2, students must complete an incomplete block diagram for a hydraulic system by filling in values and labels, and writing the necessary equations. The homework is due on March 21, 2007 at the beginning of the lecture period. No late assignments will be accepted.

HOMEWORK 3
Due Date: 21.03.2007

Prepared by
Kartal ÇAĞATAY, Günay ORBAY (B-175)

Please follow the rules posted in the course web page in preparing your homeworks.
You should submit your homework on its due date at the beginning of the first lecture hour in
your own section by yourself.
Definitely no extensions will be given beyond the due date/time of homework submission

a) Write all necessary time domain equations by using node voltages as shown in the figure.
b) Obtain the equations found in part (a) in Laplace domain.
c) Find the transfer function, G (s ) = VL (s ) / V(s ) , for the circuit given above, where v L is the
voltage drop across the inductance L3 .

d) Draw the detailed block diagram of the system.

For the hybrid system shown above,

a) Complete the detailed block diagram given on the last page of this homework by filling in
the empty boxes and by expressing the physical meanings of Xi’s (i=1, 2,…8) on the
branches. Also provide a list containing the physical meanings of these Xi’s. Write all the
necessary equations required for the block diagram. Take patm as zero.
