Danau Sentarum, with an area of 132,000 hectares, is a seasonal lake located in Kapuas Hulu, West
Kalimantan. It is called as a seasonal lake because the lake is filled with water for 10 months every
year, and the rest will recede, forming small ponds containing small fish.
As a conservation area, this lake has a unique ecosystem and is one of the representatives of the
largest flood area in Indonesia and even in Southeast Asia. In 1994, this area of the lake was included
in the list of the most important wetlands in the world. Several types of fish pass through this lake in
their reproductive cycle, including Jelawat, Mengadin, Belantau, and Tapah.
About 20 percent or 310 species of the 1,519 species of birds in Indonesia are in Danau Sentarum. In
the dry season, fish-eating birds migrate here to search for food, including from the Alcedinidae
family such as the king prawns, as well as various rare species from the Bucerotidae (hornbill) and
Ciconiidae (stork) families. Danau Sentarum is also a habitat for various rare primates such as
Bekantan, Kepuh, Orang-Utan, Black-Handed Ungko, and Kelempiau Kalimantan.
To reach Danau Sentarum, it takes 14 hours from Pontianak by land and water travel or it takes 9
hours by air and water travel.
In 1999, Danau Sentarum was designated as a national park. Previously, Danau Sentarum National
Park had the status of a nature reserve in 1981-1982 and a wildlife reserve since 1983.
The best time to visit this lake is between August and November or when the seasons change. It is
because the lake only contains water for 10 months, while in the dry season it becomes dry and can be
passed by motorized vehicles. October is also an option because usually there is the annual Festival
agenda at the same time of the harvest season for forest honey in the lake area.
19. What is the topic of the text?
A. The species of animals in Danau Sentarum area
B. The only lake in Kapuas Hulu, West Kalimantan

flood area in Southeast Asia.

Danau Sentarum, West Kalimantan.
C. A conservation area with common habitats of fish, birds, reptiles and primates in West
Kalimantan.
D. A conservation area with unique birds’ species and included in the list of most important

Kalimantan.

A student fell in love with a young girl. He wanted to dance with her but the girl asked him to
bring her red roses. This request was difficult for him because it was winter and there were no red
roses available in the winter.
The student went to a garden and began to cry, thinking that he would not succeed in getting
the girl’s love. He lamented his fate and said that he would lose his love.
A Nightingale who lived in a holm-oak tree listened to the young man's words. She, who
always sang and worshipped love realized how sad the student was. Then she flew from tree to tree
in search of red roses, but not a single red rose was found in winter.
The Nightingale began to feel sad, but a white rose tree gave her a solution that if she stabbed
her heart, and sang a love song under the moonlight, it would be produced. The Nightingale then did
what the white rose tree suggested even she had to sacrifice her life.
On the next day, the student found red roses in the garden. Happily, he gave his red rose to
the girl. Unfortunately, the girl refused the student's love, saying that another young man had sent her
better jewellery than the red rose.
The student was angry then threw the red rose into a ditch which was run over by the train
wheels. "How silly love is," he thought, "I should study"
So, he went back to his room and took out a large, dusty book, and started reading.

Teenagers like hearing music. They often hear music through ear-buds because they think that
these devices are light and portable. It also makes them stylish, but listening music with ear-buds has
several significant drawbacks.
First, ear-buds have no sound isolation. These devices sit right outside your ear canal, meaning
they don’t filter out external noise very well. If there’s a lot of background noise, you may have
difficult hearing through your ear-buds and you cannot enjoy your music well. Then, you crank the
volume higher to enjoy your music. It actually contributes to hearing loss.
Second, listening music through ear-buds are discomfort. They are designed as one size fits all
solution, but depending on the shape of your ear, they may be uncomfortable. If the ear-buds don’t
comfort well to your ear, it may fall out.
Third, when you hear music through ear-buds, it may accumulate ear wax and dust. It makes
them less hygienic and a bit unsavoury if you’ll be sharing.
Based on the above arguments, I really recommend that you’d better not hear music through ear-buds
to protect your health, especially your hearing. You’d better listen to music with the speakers or wear
a standard of headphones.
40. What is the text about?
A. The drawbacks of listening to music through ear-buds

B. To give information about the use of ear-buds
C. To persuade the readers not to use ear-buds
D. To convince the readers about the benefits of using ear-buds
E. To provide arguments about pros and cons of using ear-buds

buds?
A. It is stylish
B. It is fit to ears
