Reflection Lesson 2

The teacher taught a lesson to help students learn words that start with the "k" sound. During the introduction, the teacher reviewed prior knowledge by asking questions. In the active engagement, students looked at pictures of words starting with "k" and used an online word wall program. Most students were engaged and answered questions about the story. For assessment, students were placed in groups based on their level and completed different activities to demonstrate their understanding. The teacher plans to enhance future lessons by including more engaging videos and allowing time for hands-on activities to complement online learning. This reflection will help the teacher improve student engagement and incorporate practical activities.

AAWC Lesson Reflection (Completed after EVERY lesson taught)

Select (S):
Identify a lesson and what standards are you addressing

- Listen and understand familiar words and set phrases in very short, simple texts on familiar
topics.

- Accurately reproduce modelled language.

Describe (D):
What were you trying to achieve in your lesson?

In order to ensure that my students learn and read words that start with k sound. I create a full
lesson about it.

During the Introduction, I started with morning routine then I asked students question for prior
knowledge. After that I start review the words of the week. I have put instructions that help us
take precautions that must be taken in order to fight COVID-19, and at the same time these
sentences help students to practice reading.
Like what the Montessori approach operates on the belief that children learn best when they
possess background knowledge about a subject.

During the active engagement, I introduced the lesson by using pictures that start with k sound.
After that, I used a Wordwall program to give for the students more example about k sound and
students they read the words. After I read the story, then I ask students questions related to the
story and I let the students open their microphone to let them interact and engage to gather.

With distance learning, interaction and relationships became difficult between students, but in
this activity, I tried to get students to interact and open their microphones to feel that they are in
contact. Both relationships with other children and with adults are imperative in the Reggio
Emilia classroom.

During my formative assessment I used differentiation. I created 3 formative assessment and I

put each student in their level.
I showed students how to do these activities before they started.

- Froebel believe the teacher should serve as a guide and I apply this method in my lesson
first I do, we do, you do. I just guide the students to learn and to help them to understand
the concept. (2013)

What did the students do?

During the introduction, students were interacting with me and most of the time when I called
their name they would respond and answer my questions. During the active engagement,
students were excited to answer the story questions and they answer together. During the
formative assessment, each student did the assessment that dependence on the level and group
in which he\she is in. Then they share results in a chat box.

Analyze (A):
How well did your teaching relate to the students’ prior understanding?

I used prior knowledge when I review the words and I let them put it in the sentence. In addition,
I used in the introduction when I let them to fix the sentence and put question mark and capital
letter.
How well did you engage the students?

I engage students when I asked them to answer story questions and interact with another’s.
Also, when I ask them to fix the sentence and write the correct sentence in the chat box, this
method helps the students to interact with each other and at the same time keep the class
organized.

Why do you think the students responded the way that they did?

in my opinion, the students were able to understand the learning outcome because I used
pictures and online games activates. Pictures help students to understand the concept and help
them understand the new words. In addition, the online activity help students to implement
what they learn during the lesson.

Appraise (A):
Did your lesson meet your teaching goals?

By the end of the lesson, 80% of the students will be able read words that starts with a k sound.

Transform (T):
How might you enhance student learning of this lesson in the future?

I think that next time, I will use more videos to engage students and I will use the video or
pictures to make it homework for them or give them time at the end of the class for them to do
it and the evaluation is practical, not electronic.

What are the implications for your professional practice?

This will help students to use fine motor skills by using pens, colors, scissors and paste, and these
activities make students feel that they are in the classroom not just learning online.
