Main Characters
This boy in the book does not have a name like his grandmother, however he was named
Luke in the films. He is resilient, resourceful and brave. His reaction when he found out The
Grand High Witch’s terrible plan, in a hotel, against the children of England is to do all he can
to stop them. Even after he was tried out for Formula 86 Delayed Action Mouse-Maker.
The Grand High Witch is itching to get rid of any child unlucky enough to cross their path.
The Grand High Witch is the worst of all of the witches because she is the witches’ ruler. She
is all-powerful and without mercy so all other witches are petrified of her. So, when The
Grand High Witch descends, on the same hotel where the boy is staying with his
Grandmother, and brings with her the recipe for Formula 86 Delayed Action Mouse-Maker
and a plan to wipe out all the children of England.
The boy’s Grandmother is certainly a brave character. As for a retired witch, it's her
responsibility to warn her grandson that to keep alert to the dangers created by the witches.
When he was tested with The Grand High Witch, leaves him forever changed, although not
in the film version, she wasn’t scared. Together, they manage to outsmart not only all the
English witches but even The Grand High Witch herself!
