PART 1 GENERAL
A. This Section covers the furnishing and installation of roof accessories to the extent
shown on the drawings.
B. This Section also covers furnishing of all labor, materials, tools and equipment
required by the Contractor to complete the Work.

1.04 REFERENCES
A. The referred codes and standards are intended to provide an acceptable level of
quality for materials, products and workmanship. In case of conflict between these
standards and the text of this Specification, the Specification text shall govern.
B. The latest revision of the referred codes and standards shall be used wherever
applicable. In case of conflict, the Contractor shall propose equipment, materials and
processes conforming to one group of codes and standards.

1.05 DEFINITIONS
A. bird screen: Wire mesh used to prevent birds from entering the building through
ventilators and louvers.
B. curb: Raised flashing around a roof accessory to provide water tightness at the roof
opening.
E. flashing: Components used to seal the roof system at areas where the roof covering
is interrupted or terminated. For example, pipes, curbs, walls, etc. all have special
components that, when correctly installed, will help prevent moisture entry into the
roof system or building.
F. galvanized steel: Steel that is coated with zinc to aid in corrosion resistance.
Galvanize steel for use in roofing should be G-90 hot-dipped galvanized.
G. hatch: An opening in a deck; floor or roof. The usual purpose is to provide access
from inside the building.
H. ridge: The highest point on the roof of the building which describes a horizontal line
running the length of the building.
I. sheet: A thin, flat rolled metal product having mill or cut edges.
J. skylight: A transparent or translucent item that is designed to admit light and set
over a curbed opening in the roof.
K. vent: An opening or device used to permit air or vapors to exit an enclosed structure.
L. ventilator: An accessory, usually used on the roof that allows air to pass through.
1.06 SUBMITTALS
A. The Contractor shall submit to the Royal Commission, under the provisions of
SECTION 01330, the following items for review and approval before commencing
Work:

A. The Contractor shall be responsible for the quality of work and shall develop and
propose programs and methods of construction and testing to achieve the specified
quality to the approval of the Royal Commission in accordance with
SECTION 01450.

B. In the absence of any of the above, best accepted industry practice shall be
employed throughout.
A. The Contractor shall deliver, handle and store equipment and material units in
accordance with SECTIONS 01650 and 01660, as well as the following
requirements:

2.01 GENERAL
A. All goods and products covered by these Specifications shall be procured, when
available, from an in-Kingdom manufacturer. Procurement of all goods and products
manufactured out-of-Kingdom must be approved by the Royal Commission.
2.02 MATERIALS
A. Galvanized Steel
1. Galvanized sheet steel shall comply with ASTM A653M, 275 g/m2 (G-90)
commercial steel. Minimum thickness shall be 0.6 mm, unless otherwise
indicated. Grade 275, structural quality, where indicated or as required for
strength.
B. Aluminum
1. Sheet
a) Aluminum sheet shall comply with ASTM B209M for alclad alloy
3005H25 or alloy and temper required to suit forming operations, with
mill finish, unless otherwise indicated.
2. Extrusions

1. Stainless steel sheet shall comply with ASTM A167, Type 304; minimum
thickness of 0.40 mm. Pattern shall be provided and finished, as indicated.
D. Copper
1. Copper sheet shall comply with ASTM B370, cold rolled, minimum thickness of
0.50 mm, natural or lacquer finished, as indicated.
1. Aluminum-zinc alloy-coated steel sheet shall comply with ASTM A792M with
Class AZ-150 coating, structural quality, Grade 275, or as required for
strength.

2.03 FABRICATION
A. General
1. Acrylic plastic domes shall be provided of not less than 6 mm thick, glazed into
metal framing, with provision for expansion of the plastic sheet and drainage of

3. Regulatory Requirements
a) Heat and smoke roof vents shall comply with provisions of the following:
1) UL 793, for construction and performance of automatically
operated roof vents for heat and smoke.
2) NFPA 204M, for heat and smoke vent design constraints,
operation, size, and location.

a) Units shall be equipped with unit support, lid, lid gaskets, automatic self-
lifting mechanisms, UL-listed fusible links rated at 71°C or other heat or
smoke sensitive release devices, as indicated, and hardware including
hinges, hold-open devices, and independent manual-release devices for
inside and outside operation of covers.
1) When release is actuated, cover will open against 0.50 kPa wind
load and lock in position.

(a) Bird screens shall be square mesh 13 mm; with opening
size made with 1.6 mm diameter stainless steel wire.
4) Insect Screens
(a) Insect screen shall be mesh with opening size of 1.5 by
1.1 mm; made with 0.30 mm diameter, anodized aluminum
wire in removable, rewirable frames.
5) Manual Dampers
(a) Dampers shall be designed for operation from floor directly
below ventilator unit.
6) Roof Curb Construction
(a) Curb-mount units designed for installing 38 mm wood
curbs.
(b) Self-flashing units with integral self-supporting double-wall
aluminum curb, enclosing minimum 25 mm thick, glass fiber
board insulation (or equivalent), and with minimum 75 mm
roof flanges.
F. Ridge Vents
1. General
a) Ventilating ridge cap with ventilating mesh, providing a minimum net free
area of 380 cm2/m.
a) Cap shall be fabricated from sheet aluminum with baffles to prevent rain
entering, and with weep holes to allow water to drain to roof. Required
splice plates and end caps shall be provided.

b) Loading
1) Manufacturer’s heavy duty units shall be provided, designed to
support the loading indicated, and fabricated from not less than
1.9 mm (14 gage) steel sheet, OR
2) Manufacturer’s standard duty units shall be provided, designed to
support the loading indicated, and fabricated from not less than
1.21 mm (18 gage) steel sheet.
d) Insulation
1) Insulation shall be not less than 38 mm thick rigid board type
glass fiber insulation, inside structural support walls of curb units.
e) Nailers
1) Pressure-treated wood nailers, not less than 38 mm thick and of
the width indicated (unit width if not otherwise indicated) as the
top plate of each unit, anchored to metal framing unit. Provide
waterborne AWLPB LP-2 treatment.
PART 3 EXECUTION
3.01 EXAMINATION
1. Verify that deck, curbs, roof membrane, base flashing, and other items
affecting work of this Section are in place and positioned correctly.
2. Correct conditions detrimental to the proper and timely completion of the work.
3. Verify that materials and prefabricated items to be used for work comply with
requirements in specifications and schedules.

1. Roof hatch hardware shall be adjusted to operate freely and so that cover will
operate without binding, close tightly at perimeter, and latch securely.
H. Operational Units
1. Vents shall be spaced uniformly to provide not less than one vent per 74 m2 of
roof area. Do not penetrate the vapor barrier (if any).
3.03 PROTECTION
A. Protection of Aluminum
B. Roof accessories shall be protected from damage during installation, and after
completion of work from subsequent construction.
C. Protection or surveillance shall be provided to ensure that roof accessory units will be
without deterioration or damage at the time of final acceptance.
3.04 CLEANING
C. Flashings shall be cleaned from any on-site soldering and soiling. Special care shall
be taken not to soil adjacent finished construction.
