Tanya Kari - Letter To Earth

The author apologizes to Earth for abusing it and recognizes that Earth is humanity's only home. While advances have improved life quality, they have also degraded the environment and caused issues like pollution, freshwater loss, and climate change. The author feels humanity may not deserve Earth due to ignoring problems and shifting blame. However, the author is now motivated to reduce their ecological footprint and hopes that growing environmental awareness will lead to a more sustainable future through cooperation between people and nature.

You are on page 1/ 2

Dear Earth,

I’m sorry for the way I have been treating you. You provided me with life and happiness, and I
cruelly abused you. You are one of a kind. As far as we know, there is no other planet like you to
take care of us. You give us the water we drink and swim in. You are the ground we walk on.
You are the atmosphere that serves as a blanket that protects us from outer space. You are the
basis of our very existence; we cannot simply escape our problems and leave you behind. You
are our only home and hope for survival.

I am sorry for thinking that my needs are more important than everything else. We make our
lives so complicated that it is hard to get our priorities straight. What is the point in living large
when the basis of our survival is at stake? The recent advances in human development are
equivocal. They have improved our life quality, but at the same time, they are starting to degrade
it. We are already facing mass extinction events, pollution, freshwater loss, and a climate crisis
because of our actions.

Sometimes I feel like we do not deserve you. Most of us know what we are doing wrong, but it
seems like we are not doing anything to change it. We turn a blind eye to the evidence of our
shortcomings or try to shift the blame on others. If we do not face our mistakes now, we will
literally be in deep water when we are forced to recognize them. In our artificial world, it is so
easy to think that the natural environment is separate from us . It is so easy to forget that you are
the foundation of everything. When we work against you, we work against ourselves. As we
continue to manipulate the environment to suit our own needs and abuse natural resources, our
only home comes closer to being uninhabitable.

For the longest time, I have felt like I could not do anything to make a positive difference on this
planet, but I am starting to realize that I was wrong. Within the mass amount of people creating
change, individuals are doing their own part to fight for their cause. I am motivated to implement
changes in my habits and way of living to reduce my own ecological footprint and help the
environment. Even though I cannot change everything, I can do something. A tiny ripple can
build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of resistance.

I believe that we are becoming more environmentally conscious. Many environmentalists and
activists are guiding the way to a more sustainable future. Climate change is becoming a global
concern. Political leaders from various nations are coming together to solve it. Many movements
are arising for environmental justice. People are deciding that it is time to work with nature
instead of against it. I believe that we are prepared for an era of healing and restoration. I know
that it seems like we have trapped ourselves in an endless cycle of pain and destruction, but I
have faith that we can save our future and yours.
Sincerely,

Tanya
