Since the GL represents a rising time that is 5 times faster than the
· normal rising sign of2 hours, matters related to the 5th house can be interpreted
from it.
Although matters pertaining to children, educational degrees, and
'creativity, etc. are learned from the 5th house, the specific attribute of GL is
the acquisition of power or authority.
When a dasa period activates the GL, a person may rise in influence or
· power. The degree of the elevation will be related to the strength, position
· and aspects made to the GL. The GL is therefore very important in the charts
of all types of leaders or those people whose professions require them to be in
charge of others.
Before going to look at some examples of the HL and GL at work there
are some other special patterns to be explained.

10.2 Special patterns with HL & GL

The relationships formed between the naturallagna, the HL and the GL
are quite significant, even when considered alone. However, the interplay of
other planets upon these lagnas have a great potential to effect the productivity
of the special lagnas in either positive or negative ways.
Particular patterns have unique names and will be described below.
10.2.1 Karta
Any planet aspecting or conjoining the janma lagna, HL, or GL in the
Rasi chart, Drekkana or Navamsa charts, is a "Karta". A Karta promotes the
affairs indicated by the janma lagna, HL or 9L as well as the houses where
they are placed.
10.2.2 Kevala
If the lord of the Moon sign aspects/conjoins the janma lagoa, HL or
GL, it is termed a Kevala. If the Kevala aspects both the janma lagna and HL,
or janma lagna and GL, it is called a Kevala Yogada.
If a planet aspects all three lagnas, it is called a Kevala Mahayogada,
and is very powerful, promoting the wealth, position and power of the native.

10.3 Other special patterns

10.3.1 Dhana Yogada
A planet which aspects , conjoins, or is the lord of the HL and the lagna,
becomes a Dhana yoga karaka also known as a Dhana Yogada.

10.3.2 Raja Yogada

A planet that conjoins or is the lord of the lagna and GL will become a
Raja yoga karaka, or Rajya Yogada. A Raja yoga (Yogada) of the highest
order is formed, if all three of the lagna, HL, and GL are influenced by a
planet.
It is important to note here, that wealth and position are indicated through
the planet qualifying as a Yogada. However, the planet must make an aspect
to or conjoin the ascendant if the native is to enjoy the wealth and position
indicated.
Conversely, ifthe Yogada aspects or conjoins only the HL and GL, wealth
and power will belong to an associate.
10.3.3 Maha Yogada
Further, if the planet forming a Maha-yogada also aspects the lagna in
the six divisional charts of Shad-varga, namely Rasi, Navamsa, Hora (the
Hora varga chart), Drekkana, Dwadasamsa, and Trimsamsa, then that planet
greatly increases in power as a powerful Raja yoga. This is not a common
occurrence!
If the lagna, HL, and GL are occupied by a planet in .their own or
exaltation signs, then the native becomes a king, literally and figuratively,
depending on time, circumstance, and culture.
10.4 HL and GL in D-Charts
The positions of HL and GL in divisional charts give very significant
clues as to how the affairs ofwea!th, prosperity, power and influence play out
in different aspects of a person's life.
The Shodasamsa chart, or 16th division chart, for example, is a chart
showing the fructification of karmas relating to assets, comforts, or vehicles.
Thus, the dasa period of signs or planets in the 0-16 chart that activate the
HL periods lead to the acquisition of amenities or luxuries. Further, if the HL
is in the 12th house of the 0-16 chart, for example, then the dasa period of the
HL in that chart, may represent loss of assets, comforts, or vehicles.
Similarly, the Dasarnsa (0-1 0), describes career potentials, and thus dasa
periods related to the GL in the 0-10 chart, may describe the rise and or fall
of power or position related to career. Or, if the GL is positioned on the lagna
of the D-l 0 chart, then the periods related to that sign may usher in a phase of
great influence and authority in the native's profession.

This same theme can be applied to each of the divisional charts. Strong
GL activity in 0-24 which has to do with education may signal the acquisition
of academic awards, whereas strong activity toward HL may mean
scholarships.
The rapidity of rising times for these lagnas demand that a habit of
careful rectification be undertaken within any birth charts where HL and GL
are to be analyzed in the finer divisional charts. When time is taken to rectify
a chart the Varga positions of the HL and GL can then be relied upon to
provide significant information.
Now let us take these rules and apply them to three example charts:
George W . Bush, Bill Gates and Shoba De. These example charts will be
presented in a very simple format. It will be obvious that more than just the
speciallagnas playa role in all these charts however for the purpose of clarity,
the special lagnas alone will be emphasized.
As an exercise apply the rules given above to the charts below.

Here it is easy to see how Mr. Bush became a wealthy entrepreneur

prior to taking public office. The Moon, lord of the ascendant, and Jupiter
lord of GL unite in Virgo in association with the HL. This pattern creates a

. powerful Dhana yoga. Although a promising beginning when other divisionals

are looked at in relation ship to the period of his election, the power of the HL
and GL become crystal clear.

Here too tremendous power is seen with 5 planets achieving maha-

yogada status. Lord of the ascendant is Saturn, Lord of HL is Moon, Lord of
GL is Mars and the Lord of the Moon sign, Sun is exalted and Rahu aspects
the ascendant as well. This is a rare and most powerful pattern showing him
to be destined for great things in terms of both wealth and influence .
Additionally because all these planets aspect his ascendant he gets to enjoy
his wealth.

The power of Mars as lord of the Asc, HL, and GL going to exaltation
and aspecting the GL is overwhelming support for his role as President of the
United States. Looking at some of the factors, provided by Robert Koch, at
play around the time of his election will clarify matters even more.
The Vimsottari dasa of SaturnlMars was in effect from 11/17/99 to 12/
26/00. Seeing the powerful positions of these in the Navamsa chart, and
given Mars' status as Yogakaraka, owning the GL, and occupy the HL, gave
defeat to his adversary, AI Gore, during the 2000 elections.
In Narayana dasa, he was running the period of Pisces, and the sub-period of
Cancer, from 7/6/00 to 1/4/01. Taking into account that the Narayana dasa is
the progression of the lagna to this point in Bush's life, we can see that the
planets and their relation to Pisces, form the Maha-yogada. Natrallord Moon,
plus dasa rasi lord Jupiter, HL lord Sun, and GL lord Mars, all aspected the
sign of Pisces.
All the planets, without exception, are well-placed with reference to
both the dasa rasi, as well as that ofthe sub-period (Cancer). So this indicated,
without doubt, that he should have attained the presidency by virtue of the
strength of dasa periods, even though it could be argued that AI Gore was

cheated out of the victory. If there was manipulation behind the scenes, it
was not due to George Bush that such covert actions were being taken.
Transits:
The symmetry of transit effects at the time of the 2000 election, are
much more favorable for Bush than for his adversary, Gore. Both Saturn and
Jupiter's transit in the beneficial l l" house, was made even more auspicious
given that they were in the II th from the dasa sub-period sign Cancer, which
also happens to be the lagna. Rahu 's transit in the 12th house, over the natal
position of Bush's Sun, however, raises questions as to the validity of the
election 's outcome. Still , the natal and Navamsa factors in his charts,
supercede the veracity of those in AI Gore's chart, and thus his winning the
election is likely to have been destined.

Thanks to the research of Robert Koch we have some particulars about

the company Mr. Gates founded. The Microsoft company started to gain
ground in the Narayana dasa period of Taurus, from 1988 to 1993. The dasa
sign has Ketu, which is auspicious according to Jaimini, and is aspected by
all of Venus, exalted Saturn, and the Sun, all occupying the Ghatika lagna.
The lord of Hora lagna is Jupiter, who aspects Ghatika and its lord,
Venus. Since Jupiter joins the Navamsa lagna, as lord ofHL, while Navamsa
. lagna is the GL, Jupiter qualifies as a Maha-yogada.
The spectacular rise in fortune, fame, and power came during the

Narayana dasa of Capricorn, from 1993 to 1997. Now, since the Narayana
dasa is the progression of the lagna to a particular point in life, the results of
Maha-yogada are allowed to occur during this time. Note that the lord of
Capricorn, is exalted in the lOth therefrom, with l O" lord Venus, and the Sun,
all aspected by the lord of Hora lagna, Jupiter. This brings the full potential
of Raja and Dhana yogas shown in the chart, to come to manifestation.
However, much of Gates' wealth is shared with other people namely the
shareholders. This is due to the fact that Maha-yogada Jupiter, dos not aspect
the rasi lagna or its lord. Under no circumstances does this mean he does not
enjoy his wealth.

In Navamsa, the HL lord Jupiter, joins the lagna, which is also the GL,
showing that Jupiter is invested with the full potential of a maha-yogada.
Note too, that the great rise of Microsoft and Bill Gates occurred during the
Vimsottari dasa of Venus lord of the lagna, and sub-period of Jupiter.
With the HL situated in her first house and it's lord falling to the 12th
there is an initial indication of the loss of her self-earned wealth. However, as
other divisionals are explored greater promise becomes evident.

Given that Shoba De is a writer it will come as no surprise to see her GL

in her 3'd house with Jupiter and Mercury in her ascendant with the HL. Also
we see Mars, ruler of her ascendant aspecting the ascendant (with HL), its
place of exaltation, Jupiter and the GL. This pattern certainly indicates the
influence and monetary rewards coming to her through her writing.

That this person eams her own money is no wonder considering the
placement of the HL in her ascendant in association with the Sun, lord of the
ascendant and Mercury. Nor can it come as a surprise that she has the bravery
to tackle such a controversial subject as human sexuality.
Chances are that in 2007 when she enters her Sun Vimshottari dasa
period her earning will drastically increase.

With Jupiter, from a position of exaltation making a full glance on to

the GL Jupiters antardasa period falling between Mar 18,2003 and December
31, 2009 will be times of considerable influence for her as well.
Looking at her 0-10 we see the lord of the HL and ascendant are situated
in a parivartana yoga . The ruler of her ascendant, the Moon, falls into the 2nd
house conjoined HL and Mercury, the lord of GL while the ruler of HL falls
in the 12th house conjoined Ketu and the Sun.
The mixing and matching that is going on here may well account for the
extreme differences in how her work is being accepted. Some people welcome
her stories with open glee while other people condemn both her writing and
her person.
The 12th house does not only reflect losses, it reflects bed-pleasures.
Given her writing focuses on sexuality, albeit not always ofan idyllic variety,
it's no wonder that the 12th house plays such an important role in her 0-10
chart.
It is hoped that these examples have supported the great teachings of
sage Parasara. Also, that the examples have sufficiently stimulated everyone's
curiosity ensuring the continued use and application of the special lagnas
within all charts..
It is only through constant practice, diligence and dedication to the
principles taught by Parasara, Jaimini and others that each of us will gain in
understanding of these and other important principles.
