Homework Electrical Properties Petrofisika: Ameliya Dila Anggraini (191910801005)

Several core plugs from a reservoir were tested to measure porosity and resistivity. Porosity and resistivity measurements were made on 6 core plugs. A graph of log formation factor versus log porosity was made. The slope of the best fit line was -1.9387, indicating the cementation exponent m is 1.94. The y-intercept was 0.009, corresponding to the tortuosity factor a of 1.021.

Question

Several core plugs (diameter 1 in and length 1.5 in) were taken from a given reservoir. Each was cleaned and its
porosity was measured using a given gas expansion porosimeter. Then, all were saturated with brine having a
resistivity of 7.5 Ω.cm. After that, each core plug was placed in a resistivity apparatus to measure the voltage drop
under 0.01 A current. The porosity and voltage drop measured are listed below:

Sample
Porosity, ϕ (%) Voltage Across Core (V)
Number
1 17.8 1.6
2 18.8 1.46
3 16.5 1.96
4 22 1.09
5 15.5 2.14
6 14.5 2.41
Calculate F and determine the parameters a and m

SOLUTION:
diameter = 1 in = 2,54 cm
2.54
L= 1,5 in = 3,81 cm
3.81

Rw = 7,5 Ω.cm 7.5

I = 0,01 A 0.01

4 0.22 1.09 109
5 0.155 2.14 214
6 0.145 2.41 241

Then to making it easier to plot in chart, we must sequence value of porosity from smallest to the biggest.

The line of best fit has been found using MS. Excel, and its slope is -1,9387.
Therefore, m = 1,94.

Furthermore, the intercept of this line has been found to be 3,8869. Since the intercept is log a:
log a = 0.009
a = 1.021
