Introductory Message
Welcome to Science 7!
The Learning Activity Sheet is a product of the collaborative efforts of the
Schools Division of Sipalay City and DepEd Regional Office VI - Western Visayas
through the Curriculum and Learning Management Division (CLMD). This is
developed to guide the learning facilitators (teachers, parents and responsible adults)
in helping the learners meet the standards set by the K to 12 Basic Education
Curriculum.
The Learning Activity Sheet is self-directed instructional materials aimed to
guide the learners in accomplishing activities at their own pace and time using the
contextualized resources in the community. This will also assist the learners in
acquiring the lifelong learning skills, knowledge and attitudes for productivity and
employment.
For learning facilitator:
The Science 7 Activity Sheet will help you facilitate the leaching-learning activities
specified in each Most Essential Learning Competency (MELC) with minimal or no face-to-
face encounter between you and the learner. This will be made available to the learners with
references/links to ease the independent learning.
For the learner:
The Science 7 Activity Sheet is developed to help you continue learning even if you
are not in school. This learning material provides you with meaningful and engaging activities
for independent learning. Being an active learner, carefully read and understand the
instructions then perform the activities and answer the assessments. This will be returned to
your facilitator on the agreed schedule.

SCIENCE 7 ACTIVITY SHEET No. 6
Heat Transfer
I. Learning Competency with Code
Infer the conditions necessary for heat transfer to occur. (S7LT-IIIh-i-12)
II. Background Information for Learners
In the previous learning activity, you have learned about sound and light as
forms of energy that travels as waves.
In this learning activity, you will study about heat as another form of energy
that travels through moving particles or through radiation. You will determine the
conditions needed for heat to transfer from one place to another and the direction to
which it transfers. You will also observe the different methods of heat and discover
some factors that affect the methods of heat transfer.

IV. Activity Proper
Activity 1. Getting Warm, Let it Cool!
Directions: Observe the given Setups and read the given procedure below.
Infer the conditions necessary for the heat to transfer and answer the given
guide questions in your Science notebook.
Procedure:
1. In this Activity, there are three setups given set-up A, B, and C. Each set-
up has a bowl filled with tap water and a cup filled with hot water. Using a
thermometer, each set-up is being measured. In set up A, a cup filled with
hot water is put on a bowl filled with tap water, its initial time is 0 minutes
and its temperature is being measured.
2. After 8 minutes, the temperature in set-up B is being measured in both
tap and hot water.
3. In set-up C, after 15 minutes its temperature is being measured in a cup
filled with hot water and in a bowl fi`lled with tap water.
1
4. The collected temperature with time is being consolidated shown in the
table 1 below.
Hot Water
0 min. 8 minutes. 15 minutes.

Set-Ups Tap Water Hot Water Time
TEMPERATURE(°C) TEMPERATURE(°C)
A 20° 32° Initial time (0 min.)
B 27° 25° After 8 mins.
C 24° 24° After 15 mins.
Guide Questions:
1. What happened to the temperature of Tap water and Hot water in Set-up A.?
__________________________________________________________________________________
2. After 8 minutes, make an inference based on what you have observed in the
temperature of tap and hot water in Set-up B.
__________________________________________________________________________________
3. Describe the temperature of both tap and hot water in Set-up C after 15
minutes.
__________________________________________________________________________________
4. Based on your observation of the three set-ups, infer the necessary conditions
for heat transfer to take place.

Heat is a form of energy that refers to the thermal energy that is ‘in transit or
in the process of being transferred. The transfer of heat stops when both systems are
in a state of equilibrium. After the energy is transferred, say to another object, it may
again become thermal energy or may be transformed to other forms. The energy
transferred by a temperature difference is called heat.
The conditions of heat transfer flow from the region of higher temperature to
the region of lower temperature. Heat stops when both objects are of the same
temperature. When heat is absorbed by a body, its temperature increases, and when
the heat is given off by a body, its temperature decreases.
Activity 2. Know Me How!
Heat transfer can occur in three ways: Conduction, Convection, and
Radiation.
Conduction takes place between objects that are in contact with each other or
between two or more materials that are touching. Convection is a heat transfer by
mass motion or movement of a fluid such as air or water. Radiation is the transfer
of heat using rays or even in the absence of material.
- The illustration below shows how the mode of heat transfer takes place in a
pan filled with boiling water.
Figure 1. Modes of Heat transfer
Directions: Given the situations below, trace the mode of heat transfer. Write your
answer in your Science notebook.
Situation (1)
You were answering your Learning Activity Sheets for one hour. Suddenly,
you feel hungry and you decided to cook pancit canton for a snack. You turned on
the stove and put the pan filled with water. After a few minutes, you checked the
water in the pan if it is boiling. As you hold the handle of the pan you feel the heat
on your palm. Based on the situation given, how heat is transferred in your hand?
__________________________________________________________________________________
3
Situation (2)
Observe the boiling water in cooking pan. Based on your observation, infer
how convection occurs in this situation?
__________________________________________________________________________________
Situation (3)
You were standing near the side of the stove where the pan filled with
water keeps on boiling. You observed that the air surrounding it gets warmer. Infer
the conditions of heat transfer through radiation in the given situation.
__________________________________________________________________________________
Activity 3. Heat is Everywhere!
Directions: Read the situations and study the pictures carefully. Infer the method
of heat transfer shown in each situation/picture. Justify your answer and write it on
your answer sheet.
1. Last night you were watching the news on the television and the weather forecast
for today is muggy and hot. The temperature in the house is rising and you turn on
the air condition unit and made the room temperature lower.
__________________________________________________________________________________
2. You are about to drink your hot coffee and as you hold the handle of cup of coffee
it feels hot.
__________________________________________________________________________________
3. It was a sunny morning and you decided to take a walk. After a while, you started
sweating as the sun rays directly hit on you.
__________________________________________________________________________________
For numbers 4-5, refer to pictures 1 and 2 provided below.
Picture 1 Picture 2

4. Infer the mode of heat transfer taking place between the flat iron and the cloth as
seen in Picture 1.
__________________________________________________________________________________
5. Infer the mode of heat transfer from the sun to the body of the person seen in
Picture 2.
__________________________________________________________________________________
V. Reflection
Cite 1 situation in your daily activities where heat transfer occurs. Briefly
describe the method of heat taking place in that situation.
