SPRINGFIELD COLLEGE - DAILY LESSON PLAN

NAME: Dereck Webb       DATE: 4/26/2021-4/30/201   SCHOOL: IOE

FACILITIES: Zoom   CLASS SIZE: 15-25
GRADE: K-5
EQUIPMENT: Personal Space
FOCUS OF LESSON: Rainy Day Exploration
STUDENT PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES:
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

(C): SWBAT Identify 2 fitness activities that can help their cardiovascular endurance to stay healthy outside of
class when asked during the closure of class (SHAPE S3.E1.K/1/2)

(P): SWBAT Practice balance skills by holding poses for 5 seconds in the wax museum activity without losing
balance more than twice. (SHAPE S1.E7.Ka/1/2B)

(A): SWBAT Apply class rules and expectations during class by following directions without being talked to by
the teacher more than once. (SHAPE S4.E1.K)

Check each objective:  Is it specific? Is it achievable?  Is it developmentally appropriate?

TEACHER PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES - During the lesson, the teacher will:

1. Use 3 various class management techniques to keep the student engaged: pinpoints, positive feedback,
and asking the student to demonstrate throughout the lesson
2. Demonstrate effective teaching behaviors by establishing and reinforcing rules throughout the lesson

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS - What are the safety concerns?  What is unique about the students in
this class?

Protocols: 3, 2, 1 Freeze. students should respond by staying still and quiet and Ready, Go! It’s
important for students to know about self-space because it will help students stay safe and away from anything
in their room. Students will pay attention and not talk while I am talking. All students are unique in their own
way with different skill sets and abilities. Focusing on how students act out and quickly fixing their actions can
help them focus and improve their skills.

Intro:
Today we are not able to go outside today so we will have to stay in class today. But we have fun fun games to
play with all of us here in class and those that are on the computer. Today we will be practicing some balance
positions while also working on our cardiovascular endurance. Who can tell me what it means to balance in our
class? Who can show me a way that we can balance? We are going to get started with a warmup, I want
everyone to sit quietly in our seats so we can move to our stretches.
Warm-up:
Students will stand up from their seats and follow the teacher through stretches to get their body warm and
ready. During this time the teacher can do a check in to see how students are doing or if they have any plans for
this weekend.

Activity 1: Red Light, Green Light

Students will show they have space by swinging their arms without bumping into anything. Students will jog in
place when they hear a teacher yell green light. When students hear red light they will have to freeze in the
same position as the teacher. The positions that the teachers chose will be funny, challenging, or awkward.
Teachers will try to pick positions that will focus on balancing like one leg on the ground with all other parts in
the air or with all 4 limbs on the ground.

Transition: Students will sit in their chairs showing that they are quiet and ready for the next round.

Activity 2: Wax Museum

In this activity, students will have their own space and when the music is playing they have to move around in
their space any way they want. When the music stops they will have to freeze in the position they are in. I will
play music, and then stop the music. I will do this several times just to make sure they have the concept. Now
during this activity students are not allowed to walk, jog or run in place as a form of movement. After every
couple of rounds, I will continue to eliminate common forms of movement. This will cause them to use their
imagination and creativity to move in ways they may have never tried before. Of course, remind them to be safe
and not bump into anything.
After that, I will bring students back to their seats where we will take a few deep breaths to calm down. After 3
breaths I will discuss the concept of a wax museum. I will explain that a wax museum is a museum full of wax
figures. People pay money to enter the museum and view the figures. Now we are going to pretend our tiles are
in a wax museum. The wax figures come to life when the wax judge (me) isn’t looking and they go back to
being wax figures when I get to the number zero. But wax figures don't move like humans when they come to
life, so they can't walk, jog, run, hop, skip or do any other common human movements. You will want to add
dance movements together during the activity to move around. I will show Fortnite dances that they can use and
I will keep them on the screen for them to see.

Motivational objective- your poses should be entertaining, so the people who purchased a ticket to enter the wax
museum find it to be a rewarding experience, not boring.

Closure:
What was everyone's favorite activity today? Who can tell me some of the different ways we balanced today?
Who knows some activities that help your cardiovascular endurance? What about activities outside of the class?
I hope you all enjoy the rest of your day and we will see you all later!
