Detail Design Study and Class Environmental Assessment


Reconstruction of Dunlop Street and Highway 400 Interchange
Replacement of Anne Street and Sunnidale Road Bridges, and Noise Walls
Barrie, Ontario - GWP 2445-15-00 & GWP 2504-17-00
THE PROJECT
The Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) has retained McIntosh Perry Consulting Engineers (McIntosh Perry) to
complete the detail design and class environmental assessment study for the replacement of three bridges on Highway 400 at
Dunlop Street, Anne Street and Sunnidale Road in the City of Barrie, Simcoe County. The new bridges will accommodate the
future ultimate widening of Highway 400. Also included in the project is the reconstruction of the Dunlop Street and Highway
400 interchange, Highway 400 pavement resurfacing from Dunlop Street to north of St. Vincent Street, Bayfield Street ramp
resurfacing, Highway 400 median barrier replacement, drainage improvements within the resurfacing limits, design of noise
walls and provision for Highway 400 future full illumination. The key map below shows the location of the study area including
the bridge structures.

THE PROCESS
The detailed design is following an approved planning process under the Class Environmental Assessment for Provincial
Transportation Facilities (2000) for a Group “B” project. This will include an assessment of potential impacts of the project
works on the study area environment, and the mitigation measures developed to address environmental concerns. A Design
and Construction Report will be prepared describing the existing environmental conditions, design features, detours and
construction staging, impacts, and mitigation measures. A project website is being maintained for the duration of this project.
