DAY FOR THE
ABOLITION OF
BONDED LABOUR
The Government of Tamil
Nadu has announced
February 09 as a day
observed for the abolition
of Bonded labour. Tamil
Nadu is the first state to
have made such a declaration, in accordance to the Bonded
Labour System (Abolition) Act enacted by the Central
government on February 9, 1976. It is remarkable to say that
Tamil Nadu is the first state having made such a declaration.
Though several measures are being taken to abolish bonded
labour, lack of awareness among the stakeholders regarding
bonded labour being an offence is still underway. In order to
break these shortfalls and bring about awareness regarding
the issue, the department of Labour has declared 09 February
to be the day for Abolition of Bonded Labour. This initiative is
aimed at reaching the goal of making Tamil Nadu a ‘bonded
labour-free’ state. The International Justice Mission (IJM) on
Tuesday launched a short film on child bonded labour,
commemorating Tamil Nadu government’s initiative to
announce February 9 as Bonded Labour System Abolition Day.

Pulses are the legume

including beans, peas,

In 2018, it was determined by the United Nations to Celebrate a day
that may express the worth, value and benefits of Pulses. Hence,
after the UN’s recommendations applauded through Food and
Agriculture Organization (FAO), February 10 was designated and
established as an International day of Pulses. Thus on 10th
February 2019, the first World Pulses Day was celebrated.
‘Nutritious Seeds for a Sustainable Future’ was determined as a
slogan to be raised in the year 2016 after its nomination as
International Year of Pulses. This year specified and stressed upon
the nutritious importance of Pulses and since then it has been
declared the theme from the year 2019 to the current year, 2021’s
10th February, as a similar domain to follow.
